Much better off playing a game that you can actually spend time playing instead.
Thats so sad omg
PvP varies heavily. Farron & Spear of the Church gets semi-frequent invasions at their respective levels. Regular red invasions have been alot more rarer, both to try myself and getting invaded. Maybe twice per session(Roughly 2 hours).
The biggest problem is that without exaggeration, 50% of all of those PvP encounters total have been with cheaters. Not just "oh, better than me", but actual cheaters. Of the remaining 50%, half have been pvp-twinks playing from US(Im in Europe) with very unstable ping.
So multiplayer is still very much active, PvP however is alot less and a complete mess mostly filled with hackers.
Its similar to DS1 invasion timer but here its infinite for solo players (and around 20minutes if you have a phantom) and can only be reset/lifted by invading (becoming a sentinel/darkmoon doesnt count), summoning (even if its NPC), using dried finger or restarting game exe. Getting invaded by a player (not by scripted NPC) puts that hard block back again (unless you have dried finger active).
On top of that matchmaking gives very high priority to players who used dried finger or have a phantom in their game. This makes it practically impossible for solo players who just casually stroll through neighborhood with their sexy embers to get invaded at high wall and even undead settlement, there are a lot of coop players in those early areas. And in reverse if you use red orb yourself you either get those groups or some duel seeking weirdos with dried finger activated (can easily tell because you get them over and over).
Arena is dead. Everyone is misusing aldritch covenant zone instead (some use swamp but in my experience there is a higher chance to encounter cheaters and just plain old stupid gankers there).
Get to so called meta SL level, equip aldritch covenant and use red orb at the same time. Often (not always) players there will respect dueling and wont intervene.
I did not know the first thing above, or actually any of that, thank you for the information!
That does clear up some of the pvp experiences I had or hadn't had. The times I got more regular invasions was when I had used dried finger for summons or just done an invasion myself to get embers.
The hacker specific situations also helped as a poster in another thread suggested to me to get Blue Sentinel or just to block people on steam if I ran into them. It's helped to atleast clear away confirmed ones so I don't run into them again.
If you don't mind to duel people with 5/6k hour in the game, 20 estus + 10 siegbrau + weapon quick change in parrys. Maybe you can invade (not arena) in some areas. Swamp and Aldritch areas are still active.
