there is actually a trinket slot in Dark Souls 3 reserved for covenant items (ex-covenant Rings)

Yes, I agree with you there. Nipple piercings would add a lot of depth to the game. They could even be their own type of armor.

Instead of joining a covenant you get a ring, or an emblem that you can equip. When it's equipped you are part of the covenant. The slot you need to equip it is not a ring slot, but an extra one.

Oh i see, so instead of joining and going to talk to the NPC, you just unequip/equip the covenant's emblem and join that covenant. And this is done by using an extra slot. Looks like it ll be more comfortable then.
