Is ds3 on your ssd or hdd?
Set your nvidia to 3d settings program prefer maximum performance
Turn off blood effects in game settings
I've never had FPS drops though.
time for a format i'd say
Now whenever I pick up an item or open/exit the menu it'll auto save and cause the game to halt for a good half second. It is on a secondary SSD and I actually made a mistake and put it on a SATA 3 gb/s connection, but the game doesn't access the data on the SSD a lot to begin with and it still stutters even with 0% transfer rate/usage. Makes no sense to me why there's so much stutter now, I used to be able to play this game pretty smoothly. I am not on 10, it's not a messed up update issue.
Windows 8.1

I suggest using sfc : /scannow to see if you have any windows registry errors. If you search online you can find out how to do it and how to use commands to fix any corruption if needed.
I realise our hardware is different but letting you know DS3 runs fine - impressively so actually.
Sorry you are having some issues somewhere - I know how frustrating it is.
(Had a Geforce 1080 GTX which had a bad bit of Micron memory/ram I didn't know was the cause of very random crashes for over a year.So much trouble shooting my end finally nailed it to hte graphics card RAM.Very hard to test/find software to trouble shoot graphics card RAM.
I own 4 different home computers with different specs, the only one that had issues with dark souls is a dual core with 2gb ram.
All I could suggest is that you check to make sure your drivers are upto date.
You could also try Defragging your computer if it hasn't been done in awhile.
Maybe even backup your saves and try a fresh install.
Anyway, my driver was 430.86, but I had this for the past half year or so, I played DS3 with it before without issues. It just seems weird to me that without changing anything on my side it would suddenly run this bad. I doubt the game had a wonky patch or something, since for others it can run fine. I am also 100% sure it didn't run like this before, because when there's items and I pick them up the stutter is REALLY noticeable. It's definitely not normal and in Remastered or 2 it autosaves a ton too, but there's never any impact on the frame rate. I am currently updating my drivers and if that doesn't work I'll use DDU and revert to 430.86.
Updated to the most recent drivers and restarted my PC, but it still persists. God bless the ♥♥♥♥, they can really into PC gaymen.
