Is it possible to negate fall damage in the dark souls games?
Not only are there quite a few places where you seemingly have to take a little bit of chip damage every time you fall, but some of them are located in boss arenas. The stray demon in DS1 and the ruins sentinels in DS2 have unavoidable fall damage that forces you to use a flask. I thought you were supposed to be able to roll before you fall but I've rolled the exact moment I've hit the ground and still taken full damage, am I just doing it wrong or is it really just designed that way?

In DS1, you can cast Fall Control to negate fall damage when falling from a non-fatal height. For example, falling to the arenas of the Stray Demon, Pinwheel, Nito. In DS3, the equivalent spell is Spook. There's also the Silvercat Ring, which can be obtained by following the quest line of Sirris.

Yes , and at least for DS3, I have survived by stripping all gear and having a full health bar, as a last resort.

In DS 2 you have Silvercat Ring, Jester's tights, Flying Feline Boots, Fall control, some others.
But as a rule, the heavier you are, the more damage you take. I mean, look at Havel and the way you can cheese him in both DS1 and DS3.
In DS1, I fight the demon naked with a BK weapon (+20% damage to demons) if NG+ or just lucky or a bleed weapon. In DS2, I try as much as possible to fight the sentinels on top. At least the first 2. Then heal up and drop down with full health.

Falling into a r1 attack might make your character take less damage too. Or at least I noticed so, not sure 100%.
