if you want to invade the sweaty pontiff gank squads, you want SL133. this is where most pvp focused players hang out, and is where you will find the best players, but sweaty meta pvp in ds3 is an acquired taste, and especially now in 2023, isnt super friendly to new players. many of the players who have stuck with ds3 pvp up to this point are incredibly skilled and will roll you every time. there is also a lot of glitch use at meta pontiff - stuff like animation cancels and moveset swaps. personally i love most of these glitches, and once i started learning how to use them, found they added a lot of extra depth to the pvp, but *many* people really really dislike them.
most all of my builds are at 60 or 133, with some rare 40 and 90 builds here and there.
Maybe SL100 tops.
SL70-80 +8-+10 weapons=Anor Londo, Dancer, Ocieros, Gundyr, Dragon Barracks, Archives, Ariandel, Dragons peak and Twin Demons. Probably the biggest co-op range of them all.
SL100-120 +10 weapons=Ringed City.
Those are the best pvp/co op ranges I have found in the game by far.
weapon upgrade is +6 or +3 for boss weapons.
for builds under 60, i dont use fully upgraded estus, but IME once you reach 60, youre fine to use +10 estus. by the time a player reaches level 60, they will generally have access to both irithryll and smoldering lake, which puts a player at +7 estus. they can get +8 estus if they go thru irithryll dungeon and get the bone shard next to profaned capitol bonfire.
each time you upgrade your estus, the amount of extra healing you get reduces, which means the first few estus upgrades are very meaningful, but the last few barely make a difference. the difference between +7 estus and +10 estus is only 35hp. "twink estus" is really only meaningful in the first few areas of the game.
ATM im doing an honest dry finger run and am invading along the way. i did smoldering lake and reached profane capitol bonfire before fighting pontiff, and i now have +8 estus at SL60 via totally normal, organic progression, before fighting pontiff or entering the post pontiff pvp zone.
so i figure if i can reach +7 to +8 via normal progression, and the difference between +7/8 and +10 is minimal, i might as well go up to +10 on any finished pvp build at 60 and above.
i usually upgrade the amount of estus chugs i have to max on every build regardless of level. if im fighting twinks or gankers then i have those heals available, and if i get honest, inexperienced players i can dial the heals back. since there is no option to get more estus after discovering ive invaded a nasty gank squad, ive gotta go in with full heals and adjust down for honest players.
