Regarding Covenant Ranks and Progress
Does anyone know if and how exactly Covenant Ranks carry over into another NG+? I am going for all achievements and i need to start a new game to get the last few remaining things and a certain ending, but i also need to reach rank 2 in the darkmoon covenant (i have rank 1 already). I googled if Covenant ranks carry over and sometimes the answer is just yes, sometimes it is no, and sometimes it says only the one that you had equipped last (or that you have to have equipped while starting a new game?). The thought of starting a new game and having to farm an additional 10 concord kepts just to get back to rank 1 puts me into a deep depression so i want to be 100% certain how this works. Does anyone know exactly how the carry over works, or if there even is one?

As far as I know, you don't get "punished" for leaving a covenant like in DS (PTDE or R). They carry on as they are and the items remain in your inventory from an NG to the next. Just the farming enemies will get a bit stronger.

So, if you discard a covenant reward then you can never obtain it again?

You are talking about rewards and not items you offer, I am guessing (which you can farm as much as you like and don't disappear from the inventory as you go to another NG). But if one discards a Wolf Ring (base, f.e.) I think they can obtain it again with another character and not twice with the same character. Again, I don't discard covenant rewards so I am not 100% sure.
You can always explain to OP properly, should you wish.
LE: Or maybe it was just a sarcastic question. 🤷

Covenant ranks (and total items offered) carry over into subsequent NG+ etc cycles, you don't need to offer covenant items again from scratch if you still need to reach a particular rank. Have done this with multiple characters.

E.g. I once offered 11 Pale Tongues to Rosaria (accidentally offered another tongue when I actually wanted to respec) and reached covenant rank 1 in NG, moved to NG+ and only 19 more tongues were needed to reach covenant rank 2. Didn't have to reach rank 1 again; didn't have to offer up 30 more tongues in total to reach rank 2.

However, if you manage to lose (e.g sell or discard) a covenant rank reward (e.g the man-grub staff) then my understanding is that you can't obtain it again for that character, as each character can only reach each covenant rank - and thus receive the reward - once per covenant.

As mentioned above, in DS3 there is no special condition (other than equipping a different covenant membership item) or penalty for switching between covenants as often as you like.

What one of your characters does, does not impact your other characters do.

ok, interesting. so as long as i keep all gained rewards in my inventory and dont touch them, and i have a certain rank with a covenant, i can just keep leveling the rank continuously through several playthroughs and obtain all the rewards neccessary for achievements that way. that's good. still nervous about actually going into a new game but i will think about doing that sooner than later then :D thanks

Pick up the covenant items you find in the word as it will be just a bit less to farm.

yes that is one good part as well. there are around 4 or 5 in the world in each playthrough if i remember correctly

Yeah. There should be pale tongues, human dregs, concords, wolf swordgrass. Don't remember if there are medals somewhere to be honest.

I have no idea either. If ranks don't carry over then it means that covenant rewards are permanently missable if you discard them unless some other player gives them to you. Sounds pretty lame to me

I haven't yet tried it myself, but according to Dark Souls Wiki: "Covenant rank status/all Covenant rewards" carry over into a new game+, so unless i come back with a warning that it didn't work for me, you can regard this as the final answer.

🤔
They do carry over, that's what I was trying to say. But yes, if you do discard the reward, you just lose it. I guess the game knows you already got your stuff so you won't get another on the same character. If it's a weapon or a ring you can just take it from somebody but if it's a spell then you just have to do it all over again with another character.
