So out of curiosity, is using only a bow (if absolutely needed maybe a straight sword), what would you reccomend for the bow to use, i hear black bow alot, i dont have dlc so unless supplied i cant get the milwood greatbow

Bow playthrough, eh?

There's 3 big choices:
+ Composite Bow
+ Black Pharis Bow
+ Dragonrider bow

Composite Bow is bought from Greirat as soon as you release him.
It is probably the single greatest Bow.
It actually deals very decent damage (only overshadowed by Dragonrider) and is one of the "fast bows" - it shots slightly faster than others and even has rolling and sprinting attacks.
Main downside - short range of 43, it's like the shotgun of bows.
Scales greatly with both STR and DEX.

Black Bow is found in Farron Swamp and has much higher range of 63 and thus useful for sniping. Otherwise slower, deals slightly less damage than Composite, weapon art is ♥♥♥♥ and scales mostly with DEX.

Dragonrider is found around Carthus Lake and is the heaviest and hardest hitting normal Bow. Scales primarily with strength, got aversge range of 50 and a classic piercing weapon art.

IMHO you should be using Dragonrider to initiate a fight then once enemy is close switch to Composite and treat it like your primary weapon.

Besides of the Black Bow you should defenitely use the Composite Bow . That's mantadory for many boss fights at short distance and against fast moving bosses.
I wish you much fun especially fighting the Deacons of the Deep, and don't you dare to pull out a sword for this boss.

Ah, yes, I forgot about the Dragonrider Bow in DS3, this one ofc too.

Hawk ring, red tearstone. Then aim for the head for crits.

but if you wanna do bow build i think its better as pvp so you can manage your arrows better.

the 2 ring combo with a composite bow arrow spam skill just melts people, if you invest in the right stats.
