What I don't get, is why when I Purple Invade, 4 person co-op teams will backstab me, instead of the red phantom I just guard broke. Even when I'm wearing wacky gimmick outfits.
"Be careful! He's dressed as a farmer and swinging a pair of torches!... Oh, the Red phantom pitching chaos fire orbs at us all? Ignore him, we gotta make sure this highly dangerous purple invader who has resorted to curling up a ball is taken care of!"
It's entirly reasonable to want to kill purples, especially if they are an invader. My only headscracher is why they seem to treat me as a high priority compared to Red Phantoms, even if I'm attacking the red phantoms. Whether I'm using normal equipment, or cosplaying as a deserter soldier with a broken sword.
The problem is instinct. They know it's possible for you to turn on them at any moment, and they didn't summon you. Not sure why they wouldn't at least let you kill the red phantom for them first, but ya that's probably why.
Also they look cool.
