CORRUPTED SAVE GAME DATA
Any way to fix this please? Really no cloud save ;/

Find another way to fix "corrupted save file".
In nexusmods find SaveMerge for DS3.

Do this steps as previous writed LopezT
1) backup the current savegame file (located at {hdd}:\Users\{systemuser}\AppData\Roaming\DarkSoulsIII\{userid}\DS30000.sl2)
2) remove the current savegame file from savegame directory
3) start Dark Souls 3 again (when you enter main menu you should notice a message on the top right that instead of checking the savegame file a savegame file will be created)
4) create random character and leave the game as soon as you are able to play
close game

open SaveMerge
select old "corrupted save file" in slot 1, and new save file in slot 2
first select your character in slot 1 ctrl+c then select new character in slot 2 and press ctrl+v? than save slot 2 file.
load game

Have the same problem. When i want to continue the play of my lvl 92 character the loading screen appears and will never vanish. The harddrive is not doing much and the loading screen still remains, even when i wait a half hour.

Is my play til now totally lost?
Will this happen again when i start over and if yes, how can i protect my savegame?

This is why I always keep a backup of my saves ... it's in the appdata folder.

can you post the filelocation

I have the same problem. After Alt+f4 the game files are corrupt. BUT starting a new game also doesn't work, it is stuck on the loading screen.

Removing the save files from appdata did nothing for me.
♥♥♥ me, can someone help?

@LopezT right click Dark Souls in steam -> Properties -> Local Files-- > verify integrity of game cache worked for me with the loading bug. But my save files are ♥♥♥♥♥♥, I can only start a new game now

Luckily i could manage to fix the problem somehow, i will list what i did, but i am not really sure what did force the game to proper load my savegame again.

5) in mainmenu pick load game and the list of your newly created savegame file will be shown (should be the only one you just created)
6) switch to the explorer and replace your current savegame with your old corrupted backuped one in the savegame directory of Dark Souls 3
7) switch back to the game and press load on the only available character in the list
8) wait patiently, the loading screen will appear again and it will never go away. BUT your harddrive is still doing lots of stuff (at least my did). Wait till the harddrive becomes silent again for at least 30 sec.
9) kill the Dark Souls 3 game through task manager and start it again
10) press continue and also your thumbs

I found a similar guide to solve corrupted savegames with dark souls 1 so i did give it a try.
What else i did was restarting the game after doing the savegame file swap. Also i did verify game file integrity but without any result.

Another thing you should keep in mind, that it looks like that Dark Souls is saving a list of characters in your savegame file without any reference. So if your corrupted game had 2 characters it looks like you have to create also 2 random characters in your new savegame file so it matches, i am not sure if it is necessary.

Good luck

PS: i will backup my savegame now every time i will end playing DS3, Looking forward for a tool with auto backups like in dsfix for Dark Souls 1

@LopezT: I just wanted to say THANK YOU for the instructions, it worked perfectly after my game hard crashed and corrupted my save. Thank you so much!

This is absolutely ridiculous. I have had my data corrupted 2 times already and my latest one was at around 13h. I want to play the game but I am refusing until From fixes this ♥♥♥♥. I closed my game normally so there is no reason for it to be corrupt unless it was from an update which is worse. I know if they made a save editor it would get you banned but I don't want to put more time into this if my data is going to continue to be corrupted. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to play my game.

I've followed exactly but i didnt work for me. I've copied my corrupted save, created a new save, copy n' replaced my corrupted with the new one and i still got an error message. I've also tried verifying my game cache but it said it was clear. Don't wanna start the game from beginning :(
LopezT May 1, 2016 @ 10:20am
what kind of error message do you get?

Please be aware any 'tool' may indeed ban you for using, I'd safely backup old school srtyle. Win 10 has a option to backup every hour or less, I believe as well.
LopezT May 1, 2016 @ 11:23am
Tracido, they cant ban you for using tools regarding your operating system, don't be stupid and spam this thread with unnecessary comments

THe EULA makes it very clear about tools, & modifications. I'd rather not risk it, especially with them on holiday right now.
