What to do against these worms/maggots?

I can't get them off of me and going back to the bonfire seems the only cure. D:
I rolled around like an idiot but nothing helps...

If you have a torch pull equip it and have it active in your hand to get rid of them.

Holding a torch seems weird, but whatever works. :)
