Glowing red eyed enemies?

Keep coming across enemies that have glowing red eyes, does anyone know what that means? They definitly seem harder, but do they have a significance?

Also, Sometimes when in coop I will get a random estus flask charge, I want to know why that is as well.

The estus flask might be because someone nearby uses one, is what I was thinking.

Your two questions are related. The red eyed monsters are harder indeed and they have a higher chance of refilling one charge of the estus flask.

One strong theory is that they are corrupted by the abyss, thats why they are hardest to kill. It has more to do with the lore of the game.

I don't know if its just me, but I feel like the red eyed have a higher chance of dropping embers. I think I have gotten the most embers from the red Eyed enemies.

Enemies with red eyes have a higher chance of dropping embers and also have a higher chance of refilling your estus. But they are also way more aggressive. Some even have different move sets. I've also noticed they combo a lot faster and usually take less pauses. Like those enemies you find on Road of Sacrifices with the crucifix on their backs. Those guys are beasts, they hit hard, hit fast, dont stop hitting usually, and they will chase you across the map. I believe they are called Lycanthropes. You'll find them just sitting around and you have to get kinda close to aggro them. They run about as fast as dogs do.

The red eyes are just an indication that they hit harder and have more hp. I do not know if there is anything ele that is changed, like agro range.

The random estus charge is, as far as I know, still the biggest gameplay secret that has yet to be solved
