Preload install help
If you have the preload files already on your computer what is the best way to use them so you don't have to download thru steam. let's say someone got the preload files previously b/c they weren't going to be able to purchase it until about 20 minutes ago and then wanted to avoid waiting another 3 hours to download.

Should the files be moved into the depotcache folder now or wait until after the game is actually released? when moving into them before hand and then telling steam to install the game is making steam download everything fresh. I thought there was a way around this?

i swear I remember doing something like this when I was switching hard drives a while back w/ a few games I owned.

my computer does not work right now.. I have to get to this on my phone.
Honestly I would just start downloading, you could take more time messing around with getting those files to work.

Are they files with depotcache in the name? Place them in the ..\SteamApps\DepotCache folder, then try preloading the game in Steam Library. Hopefully it'll detect the files already there and jump up to 100% preloaded.

start preload, exit steam, move your prepared depotchache and the appmanifest to the proper folder, restart steam, preload is done now.

thats what was done, but it started a new download. I have a feeling to make it work it would have to be after the game is actually released...

damn i guess i have to wait then. I did this and then it asked if I wanted to replaced the files, I said yes. I reload steam and the progress is exactly the same. makes no sense, but oh well guess i just start about 60 minutes late.

Start the preload in your main pc, it will make a folder in SteamApps called "depotcache", now pause your download.
Copy Paste every file that you loaded earlier in depotcache and Steam will immediatly recognize the files and say "Preload completed"

Not sure if it works, but that was what i found in the Internet.

thank you, this worked great. I put them in depotcache in main steam folder, copied that entire fold and moved to the one under steamapps and it finished up.. not sure if I have some extra wasted space on my ssd or not now, but oh well I can live with losing 17 gbs at least for now.
