No. You can be hollow and unkindled at the same time. But at the start main character is only unkindled.

with spoilers i mean treasures/bosses and epic moments :)

Does this mean there is still the hollow/unhollow system?

All I know is, a certain NPC's actions cause you to hollow. Not sure if it's reversible though.

umm, is beeing hollow bad or good? From the lore

Being Hallow, in a lore stance, is extremely terrible. Eventually the afflicted will become a mindless animal that only hunts for Souls, as the previous games state. Hallowing can only be stopped if you have a purpose. Like Andre the Blacksmith from DaS1, who's purpose is to, well, blacksmith.

Well, you turn undead and lose all you memories over time, so its obviously bad.

Hollow is the one who lost his humanity, Unkindled is the one who raised from ashes but his ashe is so weak that he can't link the flame on his own. Well, at least that's how i understand it. So you go for cinders of lords to link the flame instead.

this means you played as kindled souls in ds 1 + ds 2?

Presumably yes. But it's important to notice that the "raising from ashes" thing only began prior Dark Souls 3 events so my presumption that there wasn't such concept as kindled in Ds1 and Ds2. But one actual spoilerific moment in the game speaks for the main characters of ds1 + ds2 being kindled.

Being a hollow is optional from what I've seen, as a character will actually turn you hollow.

It's tied to certain questline but yes it's totally optional.
