Why does everyone find the Crystal Sage so incredibly easy?
First of all, I played DS1 and 2, so I'm not a DS noob. I had trouble with the Crystal Sage on my first character, and I recently started my second character. Killed Gundyr first try, Vordt second try, Greatwood first try, and I'm stuck at the Crystal Sage again. Why does everyone say this fight is so easy?

I actually had a hard time against that boss too at first.
but strangely on my second playthrough. i beat it without even breaking a sweat. solo even.
i just followed the be aggresive guide. just charge at the closest boss. if it's a decoy. dodge and charge to the next one.
If you do hit the real sage. spam that r1 as much as you can before he goes away again.

He is so easy.

But in second phase, you need to hide behind a pillar or wall. Look at the color of the projectile. If it is purple, rush him down. If you have a blue in your path, you can take him down with one hit to reduce the projectiles you have to dodge. At this phase, 2-3 R1 will have him teleport. He has no HP.
Get throwing knives, it makes it soooooo easy.
All you have to do is buff your weapon with fire before walking in and just spam R1 at him. He will teleport ONE time and you spam R1 again. Defeated.

Don't summon help, don't worry about dodging his magic don't worry about anything besides just getting to him as quick as possible and hitting him as many times as you can. He will die after teleporting one time, no need to fight his clones.

Wait till suly gets you
I completed the game on my first character (including all optional bosses). I found Pontiff to be one of the easiest bosses. Somehow I just can't kill the Crystal Sage. Even the Nameless King is easier.
Well it seems strange that everyone has their ups and downs with some bosses.
I found Crystal Guy very easy and did nameless king 1st try.

can't believe that i did that because everyone seems to have a problem with him.

some people even struggle at Vordt but do Pontiff 1st try.

i had to make Pontiff over 2 days i think.
it was really annoying.

First you rush him, attack, when he puts up the fake ones use throwing knives at them{only takes 1 hit to get rid of it} then finnish him off. Dodge the magic when need to. Simple.
If you play it defensive, you're gonna have a bad time during Crystal Sage. You just need to run up to him and attack him right away so he never has any chance to attack.
It's because a lot of people walk right by the Cathedral of the Deep since it's a bit off the beaten path and by the time they realize they are missing the doll and have to go back they have become overpowered for the area.

I found him hard but I had a slow weapon that was weak against flesh, the mace.

To be fair, this goes for most bosses and normal enemies in DS3. I found that every time I try to be too defensive, I loose.

DS3 is faster and bosses are more "oneshooty" than in previous games. DS3 has a bit of Bloodborne in its blood.
Tactic:

Phase 1 is easiest. Just rush him, dodge roll his attacks. Blocking is pointless unless your shield has one hell of a magic defense rating. Beware of his attacks because they do hit hard, but if you get close to him it's just a matter of R1 spamming til he teleports.

Phase 2 - The clones all die in one hit, but you can tell the real one apart because of his purple glowing ball as opposed to the blue one. Same as before, rush in and R1 spam him to death.

OP, I guess it is the last phase with all the clones of the Crystal Sage's you have trouble with..?

Step 1: Hide behind a pillar when they spawn
Step 2: find out who is the real Sage, then attack his clones
(dogde to cover, and then attack the last clones if you cant kill them all at once)
Step 3: Attack the Crystal sage, when there are no clones left

This way you wont get shot from at all angels when trying to attack the Sage
If you do it like this, you wont lose any HP at all :P
As a side note, I find it fascinating how we all seem to have different experiences with bosses. It's a positive aspect, to me, about the game. Personally, I find Crystal Sage and Aldrich easy, but Nameless King and Pontiff push my sh!t in to where I feel too much relief after beating them.
Use throwing daggers to kill off the clones if they're that big of a problem.

Well the first time I went in on that boss I didn't know what to expect and I played defensively. I would run up hit him a few times then dodge his spells and when his clones spawned it went crazy and I realized he seemed similar to Pinwheel. So I tried just running in and killing him like pinwheel, which is just spam R1 like crazy until he dies so you don't have to deal with the clones and yep, it worked. Same exact boss fight in my opinion.
