Which Ending from DS2 is Canon for the DS3?
Spoilers to those who have not played Dark Souls 1 and 2 and 3. Read at your own risk.

So I like how fuzzy the story is in the game. It makes you work for it. I have never played Dark Souls 1 but read enough to get the gist of it. Most people from what I've read tend to agree that the linking of the fire ending is the "canon ending" for Dark Souls 2. It makes sense because 2 is about the cycle of it all. However, the tricky part is figuring out which ending for 2 would be the "canon" ending, at least for me.

If the BotC simply rekindled the First Flame again, cool. Same as in the first game and here we are in Dark Souls 3 hundreds or thousands of years later. However, if you choose the "leave" ending in Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin. Does that usher in the age of dark or are you simply not taking part in the cycle? If it doesn't bring about the abyss I suppose someone else had to rekindle the First Flame. I know DS2 was the "bastard child" of the series and all, but the cycle emphasis and rejection of it in the story seems a cop out if they go with the BotC rekindling it again IMO.

I guess my question is, by the BotC not partaking in the cycle choosing the Age of Dark? If so, then obvioiusly it's not a contender. If not, perhaps he's off stealing more souls in a far away kingdom.

Miyazaki hated Dark Souls 2 so much that he removed "leic" from "Drang" armor.

So what happened to BotC? Part of /youknowwhat/ or still typing "Try tongue, but hole" near Emerald Herald out there? I dont think curse allows death in any form, he should not have to worry about old age anyway. Even game refers to DS2 crew as the ones who went beyond death.

Yeah, anyways, the crowns from DS2 allowed BotC to bypass the undead curse, that's why the game's refering to him as the one who went beyond death.

This kinda bothered me how Botc's effect on the cycle wasn't touched on by dsk3. but they still have dlc and such

Well, at least BotC managed to escape from the undead curse, with the crowns and Vendrick's blessing, at least he got something going for him , heh.

So, the BotC had no need to rekindle the First Flame then?

Director Miyasaki himself (founder of soul series) never count DS2 in his soul series (infact he is some kind of unhappy about it either). even he announced this DS3 is the final souls game for him (the same as how the founder director of Metal gear solid V is his final game in its series). DS3 only connect with DS1 (some said it possible demon souls as well) but do nothing with DS2.

is it gonna be another DS (darksouls 4) ? possible yes because the title still can sell, but keep it in your mind the next one is not from Miyasaki any more. it just a From software version just like DS2 .

Dunno, it's not really specified, perhaps BotC took the Aldia's ending route ( Leave the throne and not rekindling the first flame ) since he escaped from the curse anyways with the crowns and the blessing, he literally went beyond death.

Or he actually did rekindle it in the end by looking at the Drang armor description.

I'm not really sure what to make off of it, just theories at the moment.

Actually, he does count DS2, he even helped in the creation of the DLCs and a bit of Scholars.

so i wondering for the dark betrayal ending, when you give the firekeeper the eyes, she says that she sees that eventually tiny flames will arise from the darkness. Im not sure if this is the actual age of man shes talking about that is the end of the cycle or just the cycle restarting itself.

It's the latter, basically the cycle will restart in time, the 3rd ending ends it completely, by combining the dark and the fire, ushering in a real age of man.
