Affinity or Homing Soulmass?

What's the difference? I don't have the crystal soulmass yet, and is there a difference between the dark edge and soul greatsword besides vertical and horizontal swing?

One does dark damage, the other does magic damage. Monsters have varying resistances to dark and magic, so use them accordingly.

Does ione have an advantage in PvP? besides the elemental damage difference

Back in DS1 and DS2, affinity does a HECK TON of damage (around 1000 if all orbs hit). They nerfed it ALOT in DS3, don't know about the homing soulmass tho, it has always been bad on DS1 and DS2 for me

This may be a late reply, but testing on the first enemy when progressing fromt the Undead Settlement bonfire Affinity did more damage, but crystal homing soulmass seemed faster.

This test was done with 35 Intelligence and 30 Faith. For Affinity I used the Izalith Staff +2 and for Crystal Homing Soulmass I used a Crystal Chime +2. Obviously if you're and INT build rather than INt/Faith soulmass with Sages/Court Sorceror staff will be better.
