is it just me, or are the skills for some weapons really weak and pointless?
Like with the scimitar, I 2 handed it and pressed L2. Then used the strong attack. This got me 71 damage.
Then I just used the strong attack by itself, and it got me 73 damage.
So Im wondering like why even bother with that long drawn out attack, when I can just use the strong attack on its own?

I also ran around for a while dual weilding the sellswords, thinking they are really weak. Then I started using the regular one hand attack, and was doing a litle more damage. Not a whole lot, but then I wondered why would you want to sacrifice the use of a shield to do the same damage? And with attacks taking longer.

It adds variety. Weapon arts aren't supposed to be activate to win techniques.

They often cut through shield guards and screw the guarders stamina over.

You can change how a weapon scales. You can take a dex weapon and make it scale more evenly between str and dex, you can change it to scale more with str, and you can make a dex weapon scale more with dex. In order to get more damage from two-handing, there has to be at least some scaling on its STR stat.

I really don't understand the point of the Stomp skill on the Dark Sword.

Like, you can armor through a hit during the stomp animation, but as soon as you go to attack, the enemy can just knock you out of it. I really don't understand how to apply Stomp in combat or why it would even be useful.

I kind of prefer the Stance of the regular straight swords.

I can sometimes trick people in pvp to trade with me, especially weak clothie r1 spammers with spear or rapiers.

You get hit once but can land 3 blows in return.

Problem being everything attacks so fast in PvE thats its utterly useless since it only absorbs 1 hit.

Yeah, that's what I mean, especially since most people are using fast straight swords, katanas, or the estoc, so I really don't get much use out of Stomp.

I'm still not entirely even sure how poise works in this game either.

Usually weapon (attack) skills are there so that you can fight those poop heads who spent 5 hours practicing parrying every weapon class's basic attack.

Yes you can use the stomp as a gap closer and feint instead of following up with r2 you do another r1. That is indeed true.
