How do you become hollow ?

Just started playing and at the moment im messing about and I have died many times but im still human. I have tried to read up on it and not really understanding whats going on here, something about humanity counter going down ?

Can someone explain whats going on.. thanks.

the only way to go hollow is to talk to yoel of londor you find him near first bonfire in undead settlement, at the firelink you can have him unlock your true power, its basically a free level, then you get the darksign, so you will start hollowing and the more you hollow from dying the more he can level you up to 5 times, you can heal the darksign forever too or just play the game by being able to go hollow. It is very different in DS3 then from the others, it takes a while before you start looking like crap but on the charater sheet you can keep track of it below your level, but only after the darksign is given to you by Yoel
