How bad is hacking on the PC?

Just wondering. I already played DS3 a lot (and I love it maybe a bit too much), but I'm getting a bit sick of frame-rate drops even from the low max of 30 and wondering if it's worth switching. I assume my machine can handle it (GTX 980, 4790K, SSD, plenty of RAM), and the people on PS4 I wanted to play it with can't bother to even start the game for whatever reason.

I can live with meeting some invincible players once in a while, but I want to know if they can mess with your character permanently? I don't even want to bother in that case.

I played DS1 on PC and I believe I met some cheaters there but overall I didn't think it was a big deal.

Yeah... I got invaded by no less than 4 people in a row in Irithyll yesterday. Long story short, we fought for half an hour, cleared out most of the mobs in the process, and a red phantom ended up helping me just so we could have a 1v1 duel at the end. Then, having survived all that, I found those two bastard croco beasts and got my face chewed off.

That's cool, though. Sometimes I've had good experiences, too. The worst of it was once I got highest level in DS1 & 2, that's when I found the most of the script kiddies.

Good to hear some counter stories, though.

Yeah, the other example I remember is from Borderlands where people could at one point throw some hacked gear that would lock your character somehow. I suppose that's the usual way of doing it because other people's characters can't be modified in memory on the "hacker's" machine, but you can transfer hacked stuff.

Yeah it was unfair for sure, but it was a good experience. My heart was definitely pounding and I did get angry at the end a little bit, but I quickly realized how exciting it had been.

PS: Yeah, script kiddies. Actually feels a bit wrong calling them hackers :)

Check the Roster of Knights for some of the stats of the Darkmoon Knights. I can see about 8 cheaters in the top 10.

That in itself doesn't mean cheating is rampant. It means cheating gives you an unfair advantage... which... we kind of already knew :)

It's sad though. They ought to sometimes look at leaderboards in games and examine those cases that are clearly unrealistic.

That's it in about 50-60 hours of playing.

Heard most of the so called hacker incidents are connected with a bug when the server is lagging the other person cant see any animations on his screen and can basically just kill since on his screen he cant even see you moving

I invaded and duel a lot and also played coop a bit. Didn't find a single hacker. For that matter, I never saw many hackers in DS1 and DS2 either.

I think I only saw 2 cheaters in dark souls 2...

i seen one just 1 hour ago ish. i made a post and 3 prive profiles tried to trivialize it. thhats what a cheater doess if u ask me. they told me why do i care and what does it matter :S PFFFFF

I havent found myself in a hacker nest so far with 70+ hours. Lucky me eh? but from my prespective, it doesn't seem to be that MANY like other people claim, but we'll see, maybe I will find one soon enough.
