Does Armor even matter in this game?
I'm wearing my full lothric knight set, wich is currently my best armor when it comes to poise and physical defense, but i still get damaged quite a lot by small enemies like the regular weak rats in irythyll dungeon. Their bites do about 10-20% damage each, and every little bite seems to stagger me, canceling me out of my attacks. Even when shielding enmeis that inflict light hits can drain it within seconds. Is there any way to upgrade armor, or is this game such a bloodborne reskin that it doesn't even matter what armor you wear?

yeah, the health and stam system in this game is a major let down from previous souls games, its using the bloodborne engine, so as such dodging is far more effective.

The only thing that truely matters is to have all armor slots in use, as each slot gives a flat damage reduction that is the same regardless of the type of armor equiped. The difference between armor pieces is the % damage absortion value, which applies after the flat (main) damage reduction.

This means you need timing your roll or use your shield at the right moment.

I'm using a loincloth and other really low weight stuff (weight load of 15%, yay)... game is still not too hard. It's all about not getting hit in the first place.

If you want to poise through something you gotta initiate an attack first for hyper armor, medium armor poise alone does nothing to most enemies in this game. Now if only we had a wolf ring....

It's in the game though.

Fashion mate - the better you look the better damage you do.
Wolf ring +0 you may get from Wolfs of Farron covenant, but that's a royal pain in the arse. +1 and +2 versions may be found in ng+ and ng++ without the need to even be in covenant :)

I'll be stealing this fashion, I'm sorry.

I made a mistake, I meant knight gauntlets. Glad you like it!

Oh by the way. Always have something equiped in your armor slot - the way defenses work in DkS3 make it so having ANYTHING equiped is far better than nothing, even if just a scraps. Try taking a hit from a boss without any armor or in dragon form, and with actual armor, difference is huge.

Poise doesn't have nearly as great of an effect as previous souls games, but armor itself is incredibly important.

You definitely take less damage with armor so it's good to have in case you mess up a roll or just don't have enough iframes to avoid an attack completely.

Resistances are also very important, it can be the difference between an enemy bleeding you out with one hit or two.

With less armor you will definitely feel a great impact when enemies DO hit you, but the general idea is to just not get hit.

No its not worthless. There is a difference when you run around with 20 absorption or -1. This video should help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MKc9ejlUYs&src_vid=i4VenyalTMA&annotation_id=annotation_503682989&feature=iv
