IT MAKES NO SENSE.
I'd say they only bother with achievements, because it's a great way to have player statistics otherwise unavailable. Most people I have talked to over the last year, think achievements and trophies are "so 2009" and how they only care for "spectacular videos on Youtube and Twitch", because hunting down a static list of achievements can be done by anyone.
I blame trophies and achievements for the fact, that people spend money on costume DLC. Back in my (and obviously your, so let's call it "the") day, a costume was the achievement. You finished a challenge, you got the costume, so you could show off to your friends. I gladly searched every part of every level to find all collectibles to unlock a weapon, armor, secret level and whatnot.
On the Playstation, it's interesting to see how many people got this and that far into the story in the statistics in the trophy section, ala "X% of all players have this trophy". The easy trophies for reaching the first checkpoint usually have up to 97% (this was the highest I have seen so far, which means 3% of all players buy/rent/borrow and install the game, but don't make it through the first few minutes), then with every milestone, the numbers rapidly drop to 70%/50%/30% with some weird, exotic or time consuming trophies ranging in the 0,9% to <0,1%.
Those player statistics in disguise have been made so popular, that players seem to be satisfied with this "bragging token", so game makers don't have to include real unlockables anymore.
I did, and NOTHING online said Id get nothing if I killed the firekeeper. All anything said is that was an alternate ending for the End of Fire ending.
Then why wouldnt the achievement pop for at least that ending so I get SOMETHING out of it?
Just play NG + and get the other endings, it is not that hard.
It's about the time spent. Why even bother giving me no achievement when I still beat the game? It makes NO SENSE.
