Does Leo ring work?
I am using a Lucerne right from the beginning, so when i stumbled upon Leo ring i've decided to test it - though i remember that either in ds1 or ds2 Lucerne didn't work with Leo so i was testing on Lothric Knight Long Spear, and i could not see any difference..

I was trying it out on Lothric Knights and those Red saw wielding dudes in Undead Settlement. Does anyone know a monster which is easy to get a counter-hit on? I am not sure if i am getting them at all, or i am getting them and the Leo doesn't work with this spear. I've progressed to Irythyll so far.

bump..

I have just tested it with both a Rapier and the Dragonslayer Spear on a variety of different hollows in the Undead Settlement. In both instances it did absolutely NOTHING to boost the damage. I made sure to get hits where you hear that loud thump to indicate a proper counter. I think the ring is bugged, but i cannot find any confirmation online on this.

I could be mistaken on this, but I believe the Leo ring affects when you attack an enemy in the middle of his attack animation--not when you parry and then riposte. The riposte is instead considered a critical hit.

Thanks for answering. Completely forgot about this topic, should've posted my findings here. Try the bigger hollows in High Wall of Lothric (where you first get there from Firelink). The ones with Halberds and Greataxes, two can be found if you go to the right from the very first bonfire. It was very easy to get counters on them.

I've done a lot of testing and now i'm positive that it works, however:

1) I am still not sure what the loud thump sound means - i rarely ever get this sound, and most of the time when i got bonus damage this sound did not play.

2) The time window for counter-attacks on regular mobs seems to be very short and also it seemed to differ between weapons used - i've found that Leo is pretty much worthless with Lucerne or Immolation Tinder (two thrust halberds i've tested), since i wasn't seeing the extra damage often enough to justify the ring slot. It's definitely worth it on weapons like Rapier and Estoc - i was getting counters very consistently. This is for PvE, that is.

3) I would love to test it against another player, maybe in PvP it is still good with slower thrust weapons like Lucerne and spears, i don't know. Could not pay attention in real pvp when opponent is trying to kill me :) If you're interested answer here and we could spend 15-20 mins trying out different unupgraded weapons.

I'm so sorry.

On a more serious note, I've not really noticed the Leo Ring doing a whole lot of anything. If it is applying bonus damage, it's a very, very small amount and not worth the ring slot. Probably completely broken.

The leo ring was this weird ass ring in DS1 too, basically there's an incredibly incredibly tiny window when an enemy is in an attack animation that it gives a sizeable damage increase. However landing this reliably is probably almost impossible.

I have experienced that the counter frame is very wonky, this makes the Leo ring unreliable.
Still a pretty cool comp, Leo-Lucerne.

I can confirm that it works with the Profaned Greatsword. Tested during hours of Silver Knight farming.

The window for a counter is tough. Without a counter I hit for bout 680 on a charged 2h R2, and on a counter that changes to a whopping 1100+.

Thus all thrusting attacks (you can see that on the equipment-screen) should profit from the Leo Ring.

Yeah the window is quite odd, i've managed to get the bonus in a few pvp matches but it's consistency is lacking.

Hey guys, ive found that it does indeed work, its a nice damage boost on occasional hits, worth it imo, combine it with a warpick (which is the only heavy-hitting thrust only weapon) and you'll get huge numbers. works best with a quality build.
Shicki Apr 29, 2016 @ 9:21pm
the leo ring works with any weapon that has a thrust attack. You have to land a counter hit on an enemy, usually after they attack. Very easy to land reliably. You bait an attack and stand just far enough away that it will miss and you counter it. The loud thump noise you hear is when you parry an enemy or deal enough damage to it to really stagger it hard and failed to riposte. Even though you failed the riposte you deal bonus damage which is that sound you hear.
BromanJozy Apr 29, 2016 @ 9:23pm
well... i suppose the warpick isnt the only heavy-hitting thrust weapon but regardless ive see leo ring take 386 to 701
BromanJozy Apr 29, 2016 @ 9:25pm
yep also if you and the enemy hit eachother at the same time you'll find you do a lot more damage than normal.
