No, heavy armor and weapons punish you in DS3.
Bike Knight Apr 16, 2016 @ 1:52pm
No, since armor doesn't do much here. Poise is pretty worthless and the heaviest set of armor will only give ~35% physical damage reduction.

You shouldn't go NO armor, wear rags or SOMETHING because a naked dude is WAY worse off than a dude wearing literally paper towels, it has something to do with how resistances scale you can look it up somewhere I think it's on reddit.

You get flat resistance just for having armor equipped. So without it you're not only not getting stats from the armor you're losing your flat resist so if you get hit you're likely gonna get rekt wayyyy harder than you think.

After getting 1-shot by everything as a naked deprived, from normal mobs to bosses, I put on some rags and now I get 2-shot so it's fine.

If you can manage to dodge well enough, it shouldn't be much of an issue. Also, just as an fyi, the defence stats in this game show how much damage is outright reduced + another percent reduction (with diminishing returns past 20%).

The Defence stat (direct damage reduction) is only based on level, stats and the fact that you are wearing ANY armor at all (level+stat base + x%depending on armor slot filled). The armor stats affect the reduction only (the aprox % reduction).

All armor has a base reduction which is the same for all pieces and different pieces have different absorption reductions which are calculated AFTER the Base reduction. So basically inshort wear something, just not nothing, have atleast one thing in each slot. SO if you want to be as naked as possible, wear the loincloth, master attire, master gloves and pyromancer crown.

Nope, should be fine. There even is a ring that gives you more invisibility frames while rolling at the costs of less defense. And when not having any armor or defense to begin you basically get more invis frames with no negative side effects.

Thanks for your comments guys.
For those who have not tried this on DS 2.
Its worth a revisit, its a lot of fun and sometimes frustrating in a err, good way.

Some of the bosses are too easy with gear, while some are appropiately difficult WITH items. I'd say you would have a good time, if you want to avoid any instance of the game feeling too easy.

That's exactly what this is!

Devs want you to wear SOMETHING, since you get no base damage reduction with nothing on. If you have nothing on compared to rags, you take up to 50% more damage just baseline.
