Dual wielding Whips

So I try dual wielding a whip. While the R2 looks pretty badass, it does 0 damage. I mean it hits things for like 21 damage. Am I doing something wrong or do whips just suck ?

They've always been kind of a joke weapon. The whips that cause bleeding or poison can be used somewhat effectively.

as a main weapon its a joke as a support weapon like making the host/phantom freak out and what not since i think the whips special can bypass shields?

It even says in the weapon description "Was not made for combat"

Used them in DS2 for PvP and it worked out fine. Granted they didn't do much damage but that's why you infuse them with either bleed or poison to make them effective.

You know that there are special whips that come with bleed and poison right? Even in DS2.

Yeah notched and the one you can make from the frog demon looking thing. But you can further infuse them with bleed and poison stones.
