How do you reverse the effects of hallowing?

And what does hollowing do in Dark Souls 3, exactly? I just noticed my guy looks like beef jerky at Hallowing = 15 now. Also that sorcerer doesn't seem to give free levels over 5 times. :/

Havent completed the game yet but im almost 100% sure that its for the ending where you dont light the fire just like in dark souls 1.

Btw protip: If you want to keep doing the Hollowing questline dont get the dark sigil removed by the Firekeeper, it ends the questline.

You can reverse it with an item you find with the 20k soul key, but it will anger Yoel and Yuria.

Fast travel a bit and there will be a new NPC at that sorcerer.

You can pray at the altar of Velka, costs souls.
You can buy an item from that NPC that also reverses it.

There's a way to completely remove the curse and never hollow again, but you'll be locked out of one of the endings.

I'm not going to spoil their storylines. You don't have to kill them, but you should. Yuria's ashes will let you buy all the items she used to sell.

Doesnt that curse stone yuria sell cure hallowing The Purging stone I think. Im sure it states that it cures curse and hallowing.

Yuria sells purging stones that can remove hollowing. If you still have dark sigils, however, you will gain hollowing equal to the number of sigils you have every time you die.

I think you can also pray to the statue of Velka to remove hollowing (without removing the sigils).

If you remove the sigils, Yuria will simply leave. That does have some story impact that may or may not matter to you.

I reset the hollowing with a purge stone and still have 5 sigils but she left anyway

If you don't remove the darksign you will continue to hollow, if you want to cure the sign and not be a hollow anymore you must have a purge stone purchased from yuria before you cure the darksign which hollows you every death.

Why? Upon curing the sign then resting at a bonfire, Yuria will leave and take the purging stones with her and then you're screwed.

I think you should be able to pray at the statue of Velka now to remove hollowing (t's probably more expensive than purging stones, though).

how do ya get rid of the 5 dark sigils? i reversed the hallowing but now the dark sigils add 5 points of hallowing every time my guy gets killed.
