Not to mention, the world is barely connected because of the way you traverse it (especially at the intro where you HAVE to fast travel out of firelink).
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why the devs couldn't capture the soul of Dark Souls 1. The concept is quite easy. Connected world, strategic combat, vast and mysterious lore, dark and alone. Boom, done. This game is literally Bloodborne 2 but with a sprinkle of the mistakes from Dark Souls 2.
I can understand the need for change, however, the soul of Dark Souls is gone. I literally could care less about where I am in the world or where I'm going next, all I know is, get to the next bonfire, get to the next boss. Quite a shame.
As for world design, yes, it is literally the same copy paste crap over and over again. They even literally copied 60% of this game from Bloodborne directly.
I probably don't mind as much since I never played Bloodborne. (PC only f4g)
The Abyss Watchers look like Hunters ... only thing missing is a sawblade and a pistol
He probably has it on console.
Well, except for the whole crystal caves out of no one, dks1 was pretty damn boring as well. Also mostly castles. Dks2 was also mostly castles. BB is mostly victorian cities. See what I'm getting at?
irithyll dungeon reminded me a lot of demon's though, which is cool. But just wait, there are more interesting places coming up in the future.
Im playing it on Xbox but i didnt feel like registering on the Souls forums.
Ds1's world wasn pretty colourful either but the bosses made the world so interesting, bosses like Sif are stuck into my memory and i probably wont forget it anymore, in Ds3 the bosses are so uncreative i dont even know which bosses i already fought.
It's true that Dark Souls 1 seemed to follow the same format, it just did it better. The world was connected more appropriately and there was a sense of grim danger around every corner because of the atmospheric details they did to the game. Neither this or Dark Souls 2 feels remotely the same to that.
I agree with this, so far. I haven't beat the game or anything but the bosses, so far, are incredibly forgettable.
Man, I wanted to love this game, but the swishy style of movement and seeming shoehorning into playing more spamming R1 attacks rather than being able to be a defensive tank has really left me feeling disappointed. Even so, I would have stuck it out if not for the crashes.
I can't believe the only game I've ever refunded from Steam is from my beloved Dark Souls series, but here I am now waiting for a sale to buy it again, because it's simply not worth full price to me at present.
Not even joking though, heavy weapons are pretty much useless with this spammable combat. I've literally switched to Fire Broadsword to do more damage than an upgraded claymore (by far, mind you) and I spam R1 on nearly every fight to win. It's hard to play tactically anymore and using a shield can be the death of you most times.
You maybe have the "technical better" bossfights now, you cant abuse some tactics that easy anymore and they are way better scripted, but they arent unique anymore, every bossfight is used to be an own experience, atleast thats one of the things souls games made so amazing for me personally.
As others mentioned, heavier weapons and shields are pretty much useless, including a pure caster class playstyle. I've had more success with an upgraded broadsword infused with heavy, no joke. This turns almost all boss souls into junk.
SSshhh... Man you can NOT say something is better in DS2 than this, you are going to be raped and killed by this cancer community!
