Most boring "Artdesign" in the series
Is it just me or is the art design of this game pretty boring compared to what it usually is in Souls games.
This is bloodborne, only castles/cathedrals and catacombs and almost only undead enemies. Only stone walls where ever you look. Ofcourse the Graphics and the level of detail is amazing IMO, the ideas of the locations and bosses are just so boring.

Im not through the game yet, im 20hrs in, just finished the northwind castle thingy (sry i dont know what its called in english) but i have no more motivation of exploring the world, i bet the next area i would get to would also be the same. Just like the northwind area, its the same castle ♥♥♥♥ again, just with snow and other undeads running around.

I wonder what you guys think, its just my opionion, and i personally think design-wise DS3 is by faaaar the worst souls game yet (im not talking about gameplay or whatever, just the design and creativity).
Imagine stuff like in DS1 where you are in the forest and suddenly in the giant crystal cave. In souls 3 its just walking around in a castle and suddenly you are in a castle again, and if its not a castle its still stuff build with stone walls, and after then you get into catacombs with more stone walls.

The only interesting area IMO so far was the swamp and that was way too short, also the bossfight was pretty lame again. Just some guy who was easier than the black knights, and the blacknights atleast have a unique design, first lord of cinder was actually one of the most boring fights ive encountered.

So again, its all MY OPINION and its only about the design/art style,
i wonder what other people think.

Edit: just went to the next area, its the irithyll dungeon, also looks the same as any other dungeon or castle before, just some stone wall complex again.... im so disappointed with souls 3, as a big fan since demon souls.

Yup, totally agree. This is one of the reasons why I couldn't stand Bloodborne.

Not to mention, the world is barely connected because of the way you traverse it (especially at the intro where you HAVE to fast travel out of firelink).

I cannot, for the life of me, understand why the devs couldn't capture the soul of Dark Souls 1. The concept is quite easy. Connected world, strategic combat, vast and mysterious lore, dark and alone. Boom, done. This game is literally Bloodborne 2 but with a sprinkle of the mistakes from Dark Souls 2.

I can understand the need for change, however, the soul of Dark Souls is gone. I literally could care less about where I am in the world or where I'm going next, all I know is, get to the next bonfire, get to the next boss. Quite a shame.

As for world design, yes, it is literally the same copy paste crap over and over again. They even literally copied 60% of this game from Bloodborne directly.

It's too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ muted in color, everything kind of looks the same. I get the atmosphere they're trying to add, but damn. I saw a Sweet FX for this game to get rid of it, but I also don't enjoy the lights looking so orange in it.

I probably don't mind as much since I never played Bloodborne. (PC only f4g)

The artdesign is too much like bloodborne. Everything is gray and muddy. So far I think they took A LOT of assets from BB and just copy&pasted them into Dark Souls 3.

The Abyss Watchers look like Hunters ... only thing missing is a sawblade and a pistol

How do you play the game without even owning it.

Well, except for the whole crystal caves out of no one, dks1 was pretty damn boring as well. Also mostly castles. Dks2 was also mostly castles. BB is mostly victorian cities. See what I'm getting at?

irithyll dungeon reminded me a lot of demon's though, which is cool. But just wait, there are more interesting places coming up in the future.

Im playing it on Xbox but i didnt feel like registering on the Souls forums.

Ds1's world wasn pretty colourful either but the bosses made the world so interesting, bosses like Sif are stuck into my memory and i probably wont forget it anymore, in Ds3 the bosses are so uncreative i dont even know which bosses i already fought.

It's true that Dark Souls 1 seemed to follow the same format, it just did it better. The world was connected more appropriately and there was a sense of grim danger around every corner because of the atmospheric details they did to the game. Neither this or Dark Souls 2 feels remotely the same to that.

I agree with this, so far. I haven't beat the game or anything but the bosses, so far, are incredibly forgettable.

I got a refund due to technical issues, so I only saw the opening areas but I totally agree, the graphics of the environments were great, but missed having that initial unique strangeness and the sense of being in a very dangerous and weird place just wasn't there like it was in DS2 and especially DS1.

Man, I wanted to love this game, but the swishy style of movement and seeming shoehorning into playing more spamming R1 attacks rather than being able to be a defensive tank has really left me feeling disappointed. Even so, I would have stuck it out if not for the crashes.

I can't believe the only game I've ever refunded from Steam is from my beloved Dark Souls series, but here I am now waiting for a sale to buy it again, because it's simply not worth full price to me at present.

Not even joking though, heavy weapons are pretty much useless with this spammable combat. I've literally switched to Fire Broadsword to do more damage than an upgraded claymore (by far, mind you) and I spam R1 on nearly every fight to win. It's hard to play tactically anymore and using a shield can be the death of you most times.

Haven't played through it yet, but so far I agree. The art direction is sligtly different in each game, and so far I still prefer Demon's Souls. Even with the lower res textures it has.

Something else as comparison, the moth in Ds1, the fight itself was so easy and boring, but the music, the sudden appearance and the design of the moth itself made this fight something really special for me (everyone one has his special moment in Souls games).
You maybe have the "technical better" bossfights now, you cant abuse some tactics that easy anymore and they are way better scripted, but they arent unique anymore, every bossfight is used to be an own experience, atleast thats one of the things souls games made so amazing for me personally.

It's been bugging me the entire time. The atmosphere in DS2 was amazing. This is a step down from the previous game. Bloodborne has its own dark and gritty art akin to a steampunk London but they took a lot from that game including combat and turned DS3 into a copy of it. Sure, they are trying new ideas and trying to advance the series but this only served to hamper it.

As others mentioned, heavier weapons and shields are pretty much useless, including a pure caster class playstyle. I've had more success with an upgraded broadsword infused with heavy, no joke. This turns almost all boss souls into junk.
