When 'should' you use an ember?

I have a decent ammount of embers now, but I never know when the ideal times to use them are.. Other than boss gates. Any tips?

I only used one when I went a long way in a new area and finished my flasks, I expected a bonfire rather soon and I indeed found it.
Or if you find a powerful enemy and you can make good use of that 20% bonus

If you want to summon.

If you want to PVP (invaders)

If you want more HP.

If you run out of healing and weren't already embered and think you're close to finding a new bonfire / items.

When you want to pvp or when you want to fight the NPC invaders. NPC invades are in a few areas and drop one of a kind weapons or gear.

Personally I just use them whenever I run out of Estus and I feel like I'm near a new bonfire. I guess you could use them on bosses too, but that feels like a waste to me, seeing as killing the boss gives you a free one

You can use them to heal yourself if you are out of estus.

Places where you can't summon or get invaded, like the area with onion bro. Tbh it's so easy to get them that you can use them freely, some ares have invading npc phantoms but only if you're embered.

If you are embered already you cant use embers to heal you up. Its a resurrect item.

I usually use them in tough boss fights, sometimes as an additional estus charge during the fight. Also it is recommnded to be always in ember form because you can be invaded by NPCs who will drop loot after kill.
