Passwords don't matter for invasions, even with password on you can get invaded.
Other things to keep in mind: the area boss needs to be alive. You have to use an ember ( no invaders when you're unembered).
When you're playing solo you'll rarely see an invader, use a dried finger or summon a co-op phantom ( NPC phantoms count too)
But still it can take a long time until an invader shows up, especially in not so popular areas. Back in the time with 15 k players I waited sometimes 10 or 15 minutes. Better results I got mostly in the PvP covenant areas and in Ringed City.
C'mon man, 4 of us and we got invaded like twice at meta Ringed City. Undead Matches also have barely a few people on at any given time so you will fight the same person 10 times in a row. You are one of the few people who keep their signs down, and TRC meta is the only place I have seen multiple signs. Even low level or mid level or meta CF is slow as all hell since a month ago. The only way to feel the game is somewhat alive is to invade with wex dust, and avoid Pontiff as absolutely everyone there is a cheater even when there is only one or two red signs over an hour. Over 5000 a night and it feels more dead than the unofficial server with barely 100. For me atleast, your mileage may vary.
About two hours ago is when the most people are playing based on steam charts just might be that a lot are playing offline, or are otherwise cheaters at Pontiff etc.
