which weapon is best for a pure strength build for PVE?
I've been using the FUGS but I feel like switching to a different weapon because of its weight

the cancer knight paired cucksword is pretty good or the heavy black knight weapons for their poise damage

I used the great mace in NG on my pure str build and it was by far the easiest NG run I've had, in NG+ it was between FUGS and the Greatsword, and the weight had me decide on the greatsword. It's worked really well for me so far (I've done everything except Cinder). Great Club's moveset is good. Butcher knife seems like it would be really good from me just playing around with it (between AR and speed the DPS was kind of nuts, especially with the WA active), but I wanted big weapons for my str runs so I haven't done much with it. Yhorm's Machete was insane damage wise and I swear it has a phatom range that's about a mile long, but somehow I just got bored using it, very straightforward moveset.

Edit: The blackknight weapons are all good, used them a lot on my quality build, but the dex requirement is really high for a pure str builld

is the zwei any good for strength? I mainly use it as a quality weapon

It's okay, it gets 559 AR with a Heavy Infusion at 70 Strength as opposed to 535 AR with a Sharp infusion on a 40/40 build. Refined on a 40/40 build yields 550 AR. Finally, 70 Dexterity with a Sharp infusion yields 579 AR.

you should try dragon's tooth. It's got a buff that boosts your fire and magic absorption

With 66 str it has a better 2h ar heavy infused than it does on a 40/40 build refined,so if you like it on a quality build you might on a str build but there are just much harder hitting UGSs for a str build, even the cathedral knight UGS. What surprised me was how effective the claymore is 2h with 66 str heavy infused: 554 AR vs 524 with 40/40 and a refined infusion.. 30 AR difference on a gs is nice. Only problem is I have to use the hunters ring to wield it.

Like the great mace it's not very good, fully upgraded it gets B str scaling.. but scaling isn't everything, look at the moveset and final AR number. Dragon tooth does less damage than the great mace for more weight. In fact I think the great mace AR wise only gets beaten by Smough's and Ledo's in great hammers (may be wrong on that) and it weighs significantly less.

any regular greatswords or greataxes worth using with strength?

heavy lothric knight greatsword with resin hits hard. also, herald cgs with heavy infusion is nice as well

I was looking for a greatsword for my str build, and like I said the claymore surprised me. With 66 str and 13 dex I don't think any othr gs comes close to the AR (554). Well, the bastard sword gets the same AR for 10 dex, but it lacks the thrust and it's short. On a 66 str build the claymore 2h actually out damages the BKS, and comes close to what the BKS gets on a 40/40 build

I used to use the executioners sword on a strength build, it may have short range but its suprisingly powerful

Nice. worth at least checking out the claymore then, depending on your dex investment for the same stats (66/13) and weight you're getting 45 more AR
