Best fast weapon for a strength build? (PvE only!)
I'm pretty late in the game right now, and I'm around level 90, making a strength build, and I'm gonna be farming souls soon to put points into Int and Fth, but mostly strength. In all 3 'Souls games so far, I've always done strength, and in DS2 I took a liking to Ultra Greatswords, finishing the game with the "Greatsword" Ultra Greatsword, Smelter Demon Ultra Greatsword, and the Aged Smelter Demon Ultra Greatsword.

Now in DS3, I have a +9 "Greatsword" Ultra Greatsword, and it's taken me this far and it hits really hard, but it takes up so much stamina when attacking, and leaves me with almost none left to roll, and of course, it's really slow. So I'm wanting something just a *little* faster, and hopefully something that doesn't take up as much stamina, but can still hit hard when upgraded.

I'm not too familiar with all the weapons in the game, and I'm still in my first play through. Any suggestions?

Best FAST strength weapon? Try an axe or any longsword with Heavy infusion. It's fast and efficient. Sadly, most interesting weapons are str/dex hybrid.

For a strength build, try a heavy infused broadsword. Good damage and plenty of swings available.

Well, it doesn't need to be lightning quick. Just lighter for one, and uses less stamina, but can still hit hard. I have plenty of upgrade materials to upgrade, so I'm not too limited as to what I can get.

any straight sword and then:
r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1 r1
works even for pvp!

Everyone is saying you should use a boring ass straight sword. Straight swords are too common.

Imo, you should try either the Exile Greatsword or the Old Wolf Curved Sword. The old wolf sword is a covenant item, though....However, I can probably see if I have it, and can give it to you. They're both very solid, unappreciated weapons that could make PvE seem kinda fun. I have yet to do an old wolf sword run, but it seems cool.

I'll let you know if I have one.

Here is the wiki page for Old Wolf. It's passive effect is pretty curious.

Also just now realizing that it's more of a dex weapon than Str, so, my apologies, but it's still on the table if it interests you.

However, the Butcher Knife is still a pretty solid weapon, and scales A with Str. It's also pretty fast.

Interesting. It may depend on how much Dex it requires. I think I only have 10 Dex but around 39 Strength.

Hello, I have been needing a 1h weapon too lately (because of the prince Lothric fight) and took the Butcher Knife too. I had been 2-h a claymore the entire game and it felt really fast. And because it scales A with those 49 STR I already had, it hits like a truck. Well, not as hard as the claymore, but it hits quite hard. The " sharpen " ability is fun for a while. The only bad thing about it is that its not a sword, because swords look awesome and axes etc a bit meh.

With that being said; if you want something a bit faster than an ULTRA greatsword, the claymore is the best weapon imo. Just because its free and low level doesnt mean its not great because it is. I tooks good, and the R2 attack is LONG range and hits hard. It has good abilities to deal with knights, or for PVP if you like (for which the very high dmg output and that long thrusting attack is a great plus too)

It requires 19 str, 28 dex. If you go 40/40 it's not too bad of a weapon at all (if you're not deciding to go with something like faith or int, then it should be totally fine .Plenty of points left for endur / vit / vig

I wouldn't say either of those curved swords are fast by any means. Fun, but definitely not fast.

I think by now, I just want something that'll take less stamina to swing. I can swing my Greatsword Ultra Greatsword MAYBE 3 times with an RB
attack before I run out of stamina. Ergo, I can't roll away from a boss thaty's about to counter attack. It's nice to one-shot weaker enemies, but it's at a high cost. Stamina consumption and damage output is the deciding factor right now.

axes and hammers are a good speed to strength comprimise. Brigand Axe is a very great weapon.

Straight swords and axes are probably what you're looking for. I think the broadsword is good for a heavy infusion as far as straight swords go, and the brigand axe is a decent mix of speed and power

Axes are really underappreciated in my opinion. Everyone uses butcher axe but seriously the axe tree has great options.

I wish the great machete let you hit twice when you were two handing it. I love the look but nope. Have to one hand it and that opens you to a parry. I know you meant axes not greatxes but just a thought.
