If you know how it's very easy. He is only hard on the first few trys.

He can be punishing if you can't get to his hands and arms, but otherwise, he's not much of a threat.

Like all gimmick fights, once you know the trick, it simply becomes a thematic boss, not an actual challenge.

Wolnir is probably the easiest boss in the game. Apparently Wolnir has a second phase in which he uses a sword and summons skeleton, but even today with my Level 7 run with a +2 Battle Axe, I still couldn't make him do it.

Pretty sure he can summon skeletons right from the start, as for the sword it comes out after destroying 2 bracelets

Wolnir is borderline the easiest boss in any souls game ever.

Seriously, he's never summoned skeletons or used his sword against me in any of my 3 playthroughs. Twice on my first character and the last one being on my level 7 character.

It's just random and responding to your position during the fight.

Try keeping further away from him. It should prompt him to start doing some of his other attacks.

As you damage him, the skeletons he summons will get stronger (he'll spawn in more advanced varieties). But he usually ends up killing them with his cloud attack, so it's still not that big a deal.

I'm on my 5th play-through and I've only seen them twice and only once since I figured out the bracelet thing after my first couple of tries. It actually happened on the play-through I'm doing now, can't remember if it was right at the start or after I destroyed his first bracelet.

You probably haven't noticed the sword cause it spawns in his right hand and from what I understand the meta is to destroy the right bracelet first. Then focusing on the left hand, chances are you won't notice the sword

Well i did delay the fight alot, but he neither spawned skeletons, nor used the swords.

Sorry, can't say that's the problem. I usually destroy the two bracelets on his left hand and then approach his right hand. Perhaps the problem is me dealing too much damage early on?

Maybe, not sure, he's spawned the sword every time I've fought him

The skeletons and the sword are two seperate things, independant of each other, and can happen at any time. It's RNG, and may or may not happen. I've seen him draw out the sword first thing once. Other times I've never seen him do either attack. YMMV. His sword CAN be threatening, especially since he does a giant WotG when he decides to put the sword away again, but its mostly his breath attack and accidentally getting too close to him that will kill you, as that gas kills you FAST. Easy to dodge when you know about it, and hell, his breath attack doesn't even touch his bracelets so you can just wail on him while he does it, but there you go.

Otherwise, nothing new about having a boss that's easier than the tutorial boss. DS1 had Pinwheel, DS2 didn't really have a tutorial boss but I'll count Last Giant as it, so... DS2 had Prowling Magus.

Fun facts about Wolnir

1. He has a unique death if you kill him without breaking all 3 bracelets (breaking 2 is fine).
2. ALL of the skeletons he summons have white eyes (will revive after dieing), which is the only thing that makes them threatening.
3. I'm not sure if its his health, how many bracelets he has remaining, or just how many times he's summoned skeletons, but later skeleton summons can bring in multiple CARTHUS SKELETONS of all varieties, including those damn annoying Shotel ones that jump around flinging daggers. And they ALL have white eyes, too! Good grief, it was hard killing Wolnir without breaking his 3rd bracelet purely because of these things!

Yep, I'm aware they are separate and unrelated. Also aware the skeletons can spawn at anytime.

Thanks for the info on the sword though. As well as all the other info, now I'm gonna try to kill him without breaking all the bracelets. Wish me luck.
