Why Are The Basilisks So Terrifying?!
I think theyre the least scary in ds3 actually. but god, theyre so f*cking creepy, especially in ds1 and ds2, from their disgusting eyes (which from what i understand are not even real, their real eyes are in their mouth or so i've heard) to their creepy as f*ck sound. theyre most likely some of the scariest enemies i've ever encountered in a game, am i the only who thinks that?

Ignoring those big, goofy orange eyeballs and just looking at their real face, I'd say thats a pretty spooky lizard.

Same.

It's mostly cause curse = insta-kill, builds fast, is a pain to resist and they tend to freakin SPAM the damn thing in AoEs.

Also, for the eyes, think sharks. Tiny and just behind and above the mouth.

The reason they are "less scary" is because you already know their gimmick.

They have been "less scary" since DS2 anyways. The scary part wasn't the instant death. It was the painful status effect in DS1 (which used to be worse at launch).

not for me, i played dark souls 2 last (well its my first souls game but the first few times i played it i didnt get far enough to encounter one of these sh*tbags) one of the main things that pushed me to write this article was the basilisk behind the big door in majula, nightmares for weeks.
and yes, the curses are SUPER annoying, mostly in ds1, but their design is personally terrifying, please dont decide for me why something was less scary to me unless i ask purposefuly ask you to

Eyes have always been the main focal point for humans alike, and any change in preportions confuses those humans and makes them freak out as their brain goes "whaa-butt...-this must---has to be eyes???"

Curse was great, way better than insta-death we have now. It was very D&D.

What's that? Not telling people what their opinion should be on a Darksouls message board?!

You must be new here.

(I'm joking).
