What area made you want to quit?
I made it through my first play-through and did not like Irithyll of the Boreal Valley (mainly the first path to the second bonfire). The area looked awesome, but the fight up (or attempted run) was horrible. I wasn’t bothered by the poison areas, just tanked the poison.

My second play-through (new character, focus on more dex weapons), I just uninstalled the game at Irithyll. I will probably install it again in a day or so. But, I really do not like that run to the second bonfire.

Where did you want to give up, or actually quit?

It only took a few hours before I reinstalled the game and beat the area (summoned help). Went through and beat the boss, then put my sign down and helped others.

So are we talking about Irithyll or specifically anor londo here?

Well, it has happened in almost every area I invaded in.

While nothing made me want to quit, I think Boreal Valley is the most common (and was also my first case of "Wow that's total BS" against an enemy type).

It has the combination difficulty spike plus the Pyromancers who can wallhax and attack you through walls with no line of sight once they aggro.

Pyro witches at least, get downgrade to "Just Jerks" once you learn they stagger so hard against anything hitting them, that even if you have to stop and wait for your stamina to refill, you can restagger them.

But if you don't have at least a shortbow to pull some of their adds away from the pyros to thin things out, it's way more frustrating due to No Working (or "working in any PRACTICAL manner") poise to try and deal with them being aggroed on you, and other enemies at the same time.

Dungeon I cleared out entirely on the first shot aside from the locked doors needing the key from Profaned. But that was, again, thanks to the wonders of Shortbow Pulls (and hard cover). As well as a lot of patience. The life drain on jailers hurts a lot less if you are patient, so they just drain the first 1/4 of your bar over and over instead of bringing you down to half or less.

Im sure the Dungeon is the biggest ball buster to anyone with a more straightforawrd mindset, or used to saying "LOL DS3 IS TOO EZ, Ill just Just pro SL1 my way through it lololol" and getting a branding iron shoved up their 1 HP "Try, but hole"

The Anor Londo Archers redux would probably have been mush worse to deal with in DS2. Due to the whole Agility thing. Here, people have good dodge rolls by default, and they take less stamina. I admit to taking the time to slowly murder one of the archers with a bow to give me more breathing room on the way up.

Then again, hardly anything will compared to my first time in Anor Londo...

This time around, I didn't have a crystal homing soulmass crab respawning 4 times in a row, even if I stopped to kill it.

None of them to be honest, I found the game fairly tolerable all the way through. Compare it to Dark Souls 1 which had Blighttown, New Londo, Catacombs, Tomb of the Giants and you realise Dark Souls 3 is an utter cake walk by comparison.

Cathedral of the deep was incredibly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. the ambushes and the incredibly strong halberd guys.
I guess thats what happens when you dont use a shield

The real trick about DS3's difficulty is that on the whole. most of the zones are overall harder than anything in DS1, but there are less Gotcha Tricks.

You can't take a wrong turn into respawning skeletons or Invincible without curse effects ghost land as soon as you leave the tutorial (meanwhile, undead burg+undead parish is dirt easy compared to High Wall).

Farron is way harder than lower blight town, but the poison isn't as strong. However, poison was the only real danger of lower blight town anyways.

You can't run into a hippo who will one shot kill you with a grab nailing you from a 90 degree angle before you even see the character select screen ala DS2.

You don't have a gimmick boss who you are required to die to before you can fight him for real (without wacky sequence breaks at least).

You don't have a boss forcing you to jump down a harmful pit to reach him like Nito. (and now Safe Fall spells are 10 Int, instead of 15 Int like DS1.)

I killed Artorias and Kalamee on the first shot, while the Dancer and Champion took me two tries (Granted, My skill level is all over the place. After my killing Artorias/Kalameet blind on the first try, I died 5 times in a row to a silver knight. After I beat the champ, I died to the pair of black knights).

Sadly, many people only equate the amount of inconvenience, not quality, of difficulty in video games. So they feel anything that isn't essentially a Rom Hack is "Too casual", because it's quite difficult for any of the bosses in this game to one shot you from 1,000 to 1,300 health"

I think the only thing that could striaght up one shot me in DS3 with 1k HP, was when I was stupid enough to decide to try and use a trade hit to finish off a red eyed UGS lothric knight while he had the crystal weapon buff up.

"I've got my full 1,000 HP. It will be fine-"
YOU DIED.

For further "My PvE skill level is selected by a random number generator". Sens Funhouse. I think I died like, twice on the way through forward. Then after the boss, died probaly a dozen times like a moron trying to backtrack for stuff I had missed.

In DS1 I ragequitted a lot. Some of the reasons were blighttown, sen's fortress, anor londo, artorias...

In DS2 I remember giving up on beating the smelter demon on my first run, but I didn't really ragequit the game because of him.

In DS3 everything is fine so far :3
Let's see if the DLCs will make me break my controller \o/

Aldrich at sl 6 with +2 weapons, so close, yet so far.

300 deaths later, victory achieved, followed by headrush.

Not doing that again.

Smouldering Lake was the worst for me, maybe I was tired or not doing great, but the place destroyed me, repeatedly.

I died to everything, expect the 2 black knights.

Killing Tsoring took a dozen of attempts, and I had to cheese him with a bow in the end; I had to run through the Ghru dogs, the rats, the basilisks, far too many times.

Then I went to deactivate the ballista ... I got cut up by the swordsman skeleton, and I almost died there too.

Old demon King was the first boss that took more than 3 attempts, during my first playthough.

When I was done with the area I went to Irithyll and it was a walk in the park by comparison.

The area with the most annoying enemies IMO is Archdragon Peak, though it never made me want to quit.

Samething, only for me it was 3 A.M. and Irithyll Dungeon.

Heard the scream/breathing, and found the non-hostile Lizard-Man clinging to the wall.
Fastest I'd ever Homewarded out of a area.
Decided to go to bed since I didn't know how nightmare inducing it would get.

This has been harder than some areas, but I don't see what the big deal is-
*smashed by chain hammer through wall by enemy who hasn't even seen you yet. While your shield was raised*

Needless to say, I had zero estus of any kind, and had resorted to an ember as a healing method by the time I was praying the plunging attack worked instead of making me harmlessly bounce off the wyvern to my death.

Stance art makes the ones with shields walking free ripostes, at least. God I crutch on the stance art whenever I see an enemy it works on. (It even worked on Havel, whoo! Still risky as ♥♥♥♥ that he'll decide to trade hit you though).

Straight sword and Great sword Stance art (well, not the rapier one. That one bounces off a hollow soldier's wooden shield, WTF) makes me actually glad to see mace cathedrel knights.

Don't forget the little stone things with their stupid faster-than-you-can-roll bounce attacks and rolling hedgehog death attacks.

Never wanted to quit during any area as they all went very easy for me.
however the swamp at farron is an atrocious zone.
