Horace *mild spoilers*

Having done Anri's questline a few times I'm just wondering if I missed an explanation as to why Horace abandons her (or him if you have a female character) and turns hostile?

He went nuclear... I mean hollow, right?

If I could wager a guess:

He fell down the chasm and couldn't find his way back ( because of balista ).
Over time, and because of desparation, he went mad.

Horace got separated from Anri due to a trap I think? Then he couldn't escape and went hollow.

He was missing in the catacombs already.

the first time i spoke to horace he said "mghhhuighhhghhhhhhhhuuuhuhuh" I think he was slipping away far before they even got to the catacombs lol.

Maybe he ran from the skeleton ball and that's why you see the switch broken and the gate already down.

i think with his last scrap of sanity he left anri behind, for fear of what he would do.

If you did her questline a few times you should know, they both go hollow, horace goes first and wanders off into smouldering lake, she does later if you complete her questline without getting her killed.

Anri was always hollowed, this eventualy drove him to madness.

I think he's also a potential Lord of hollow, waiting for the right moment to kill Anri and take her sigils but decide to temporarily co-op with him/her to get through the areas.

However you stepped in so he decide to deal with you first since you're also a potential Lord of Hollow, then kill Anri.

But since you progress through the area without further interacting with them, he decide to reap Anri, then comes for you.

Depends on your action through the sotry that is.
