This gray screen crash is starting to get pathetic.
I honestly do not know what happened with this game after launch but this is seriously getting on my nerves. At random times the game will just gray screen with sound continuing to play as normal(I even hear myself swinging), and then the entire screen just goes black like the graphics driver just had a massive meltdown. I have to hard boot the computer at this point because it refuses to recover

This can happen at anytime - during a boss fight, sitting at a bonfire, selling rings(yep it happened), etc. It can happen 15 minutes into a session or 3 hours into a session.

From what I have gathered so far.

CPU and GPU are not overheating - 55c and 76c respectively
No other applications open - even afterburner and rivatuner have been disabled.
2 different drivers, including the newest 365.19
Played in Windowed mode - entire monitor went gray. It is like the game is killing my display for some reason.

I just finished DOOM - 12 hours of playtime and not once did it gray screen. Had a nice little GTAV session not too long ago - about 2 hours worth and not one crash.

If anyone else is experiencing this please speak up and let me know what fixed it for you or if it is still occurring. I am going to go buy Salt and Sanctuary to get my dark souls fix for now.

I've been having display issues as well but they aren't gray - just black, powersaver mode. I've went through all methods posted on reddit and otherwise (power efficiency max, lowered settings, etc). I'm currently on 362.00 with an EVGA 970 acx2+. I also play DOOM and GTAV - which are both fine btw. So it's pretty much just DS3 being a pos port at this point. I haven't found any solutions.

I just got this issue today. I alt-F4'd in Dark Souls III (don't ask me why, it's complicated) and then after restarting the game I get a grey screen and my computer basically stops responding (crashes, basically). I restart, try it again. I start up the game, get like 10 FPS - it stabilizes to my normal 45~ FPS and then it does it again. I haven't tried starting it up a second time and I was assuming it was my overheating system or something idk.

The only difference is when I got the grey screen my keyboard, mouse and basically entire computer stops responding. I don't even hear my friends in the TeamSpeak anymore.

Post from Big Yehudah is basically what I am talking about, except it appears to be happening to him constantly whereas it only happens to me with this game

Yours also sounds similar but I never have sporadic FPS after the crash/reboot of my PC. I am almost wondering if this entire driver set is borked and DS3 just brings out the worst in it.

Vasectomy Vampire, exactly the same problem as you. Random crashes.

Please From Software. Give us a solution. I got an AMD R9 380x. I dont think is a nvidia problem.

I hear rumors that playing above 1080p appears to be pretty crash prone. Are you playing at 1080p by chance?

I thought I was the only one with this problem! This happened to me also on Dark Souls 2: SotFS as well.

still no fix to this?

My fix was to get a new power supply. My old PSU wasn't giving enough power even with max power settings so my monitor would turn black while PC was out (audio and stuff).

Figured I would chime in on my experience thus far. Since taking my OC off my cpu the game has been stable as stable can be. Either the game just doesn't like cpu overclocking or I am about to break my streak of luck and have the game gray screen the next time I boot it up :D
