Point of "Sorcerer" clothing?
So whenever you start as a Sorcerer you're given a robe and whatnot, and there are plenty of sorcerer related clothings throughout the game (e.g. Prince Lothric's robe of prayer), but all they seem to give is magic resistance, and magic is not really the biggest thing in this game. The devs tried giving average enemies magic attacks but it seems that raw physical damage absorption is always the best.

Is there some hidden attribute with sorcerer related clothing that boosts your spells or is it just for fashion souls/magic resistance? Thanks.

Since poise is pretty much useless beyond 0.1 (makes no difference if you have 0.1 or 50 or 100 or anything) it's best just to get very good at dodging or knowing weapon distance so you can bait just out of range and wear lighter armor to avoid spending levels on unnecessary Vitality points while maintaining mobility.

As for the magic resistances, it also works against buffed/infused weapons with elemental damage, including vs NPCs and bosses and the like as well as PvP. So vs weapons with split damage it's pretty effective at reducing how much you take. Higher physical resistances help a little, but not enough to really be worth it in my opinion when the objective is to avoid getting hit as much as possible. And unless you have enough vigor to work in tandum with resitances to allow you to survive another hit, it's really not going to help (eg if you have 1000 hp, and a guy hits you for 700 damage without physical resistances and 500 with physical resistances, you will still die in two hits either way).

That's about it. Might as well just go fashion.

What these guys said. Though there is a helmet that boosts sorcery damage. And in previous games (not sure with soulsm3) some gear could give you intelligence and faith boosts. Along with attunement slots.

Armour doesn't do anything.

Damage Reduction is the same on all equipment.
Damage Absorption's effect softcaps at 20%.
Poise does nothing.

Against bosses like Deacons of the Deep/Crystal Sage/etc., that's probably the best time to switch. Otherwise it's best to just have something in each slot.

Lightweight, some Buff's/Utility effects on certain things, Generally better Magics, Bleed, Poison, etc Resistances.

And above all: Fashion.
