DARK SOULS™ III

Lightning gem infused vs RAW infused + Lightning blade spell (FAITH build)
okay so im mainly going for a faith build.... meaning my str/dex are low but high enough to use the weapon i want so which would be a better way to go? lightning infused weapons or a raw infused weapon buffed with lightning blade?

a weapon buffed with spells such as carthus flame arc and whatever the lightning one is called is always gonna be better than jst plain infusions

as for the math idk, google it
been googling but can't find a solid answer or opinion
Also does the buffed damage from the lightning blade mircale scale with faith?
Yeah it scales with faith
gold pine resin gives 95 lightning damage for 60secs http://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Gold+Pine+Resin
Acording to fextralife, Lighting Blade:

Notes

Adds 0.96 * (Spell Buff) lightning damage
Lasts 60 seconds. If you wear the Linger Dragoncrest Ring, the buff lasts 80 seconds
Can't use on a magical infusion, only on normal weapons or physical infusions (excluding blessed).
The sound of the buff might give you cancer.

So, these are things to consider when using the spell.

Compare that with your current weapon being infused ( since each weapon will have different results with the gem ).
Astora GS lightning Infusion is S and at + 10 does 400 pure lightning damage and about 150 physical. It's important to consider infusions with high scaling cause split damage will always hit for alot less than the AR indicates. This weapon is great for bashing through shields by eating up their stamina and still causing decent damage.

Dragonslayer Axe can be made raw for good physical damage and the inherent lightning damage will stack with Lightning Blade for 380 - 450 lightning damage.

Lightning Blade gives about 200-250 bonus lightning damage at 60 FTH and a spell buff 200-240, I think (can't remeber exavt #s)

Infusions will always have high AR but the split damage makes them undesirable unless the non physical damage is giving nearly all/most of the AR.

Keep in mind that infusions are always active and buffs run out and use up FP. It's good to have options for both.
GAH all this is confusing!.... Also what the hell does AR stand for? xD

So does lightning blade not scale with faith then? does it always add 0.96 no matter how high the faith?
AR = attack rating.

the number you see when you equip a weapon and look at the weapon slot on your stat screen

spell buff scales depending on catalyst. Obviously chimes and talismans scale with FTH (except for a few exceptions) and thus FTH effects the miracle by effecting the spell buff of the item used to cast it.

the notaion the guy gave is the math used to derive the amount of lightning damage the spell gives.

said to be:

0.96 x spell buff

And the buff will last for 60 seconds
Depends, with Infusion, you are getting reliable scaling on Faith that you have always on hand, but is significantly weaker than using a RAW (Or even Refined in somecases) weapon, plus a miracle like Darkmoon or Lightning blade.

I personally ran (Still run I guess?) a build like this through NG++, and your biggest challenge is going to be finding opportunities to buff your weapon during boss fights. I have a fight recorded and I think it illistrates pretty well the kind of damage reduction you're looking at if you can't keep your spells up consistently: (This character has 40FTH, 18STR and 16DEX)

so does that mean my talisman that does 139 spell buff puts on 139 x 0.96 lightning damage (how ever much that equals out to im not sure)
hmmmm damn this game is confusing xD so much effort think i'll just stick to lightning infusions for now... can always change to raw later
