Carthus Catacombs
Hey all! Its my first run through of the game, and my first actual serious souls game, I played at bit of DS1, but thats really it. I finally killed the Abyss Watchers, and now im in the Catacombs, but the Enemies here seem so much stronger than the ones in Farron Keep, What SL should I be here? Currently im SL31

Make sure your weapon is upgraded (you should be +3 by the time you get to the catacombs).

The skeletons here are very weak to strike damage (a good enough strike weapon will actually knock them down when you hit).

If you haven't already, you may want to go back and do the Cathedral of the Deep. The enemies there are lower level.

Did you get the Executioner's greatsword from the Cathedral's outdoor areas?

It has a special property where hitting the dressed up ninja skeletons with it at all, scatters them to pieces.

Executioner's Greatsword makes the Catacombs a cakewalk. It causes skeletons to break apart every time you hit them. If you go to the Cathedral and continue until you encounter a grave of respawning enemies, navigate and find a big open area and at the very edge of it is the Executioner's Greatsword, you can either Homeward Bone out or fight through all the Undead.

This is simply because the sword deals strike damage.

You can do this with any heavy strike weapon (any great hammer, the cathedral knight greatsword, etc.). In addition to doing more damage (they're vulnerable to strike), it will lay them out when they're not already in the staggered animation (they get immunity when they're reassembling, so you have to wait a few moments before you can flatten them again).

Those weapons knock an enemy on the ground. The Executioner Sword literally breaks them apart which takes twice as long as just knocking them down. It's basically making them respawn over and over.

As noted, it's a special effect on the skeletons from strike weapons.

The executioner's blade simply happens to be both strike and heavy. You're free to use any other heavy strike weapon, and it will produce the same effect. (The only thing I don't know is how heavy the weapon has to be; I know you can't do it with a shield, which does strike damage when you two-hand and attack with it, but I don't know about normal clubs/maces/etc.)

you can infuse your weapon with a blessed gem so the skeletons dont come back to life once they are killed, its not that big a deal though.

make sure you find the secret exit somewhere in the area :P
