Why can't I get inside the cage in the undead settlement?

i think if you already killed the tree boss you couldnt enter

you can get mound makers covenant later in sirris side quest if you miss "the cage badguy" after defeated tree boss.

If you kill the boss you cant do it; this is my second playthrough and i always forget that secret path ;_;
