Claymore is a little op.
Title. I mean, you can get it to +4 before curse-rotted greatwood, at that point it should do about 230 damage. Kinda unlocks an easy mode for early game.

Dark Souls has always had weapons that could make early game easier. Literally, there is the deep axe that you can get within the first 30 minutes of the game, and its AP is 200 already.

You can buy the white soapstone for 500 souls after ludex. I'd say that's pretty early easy mode.

hah...put raw infusion on astora straight sword and you will forget about Claymore's early strenght.

Scaling tho. I generally dislike weapons with no scaling.

Early game is pretty easy in general though. You could say that the Fire Gem is an OP burial gift, since it gives you almost instant access to one of the most reliable early-game infusions. Most enemies in the earlygame are weak to fire, and will die VERY quickly, regardless of what weapon you put this on.

Combine this with something like the Estoc (or for heavy weapon options, I personally used the Great Machete for most of my first playthrough) and you probably won't have much trouble until Smouldering Lake, where fire doesn't really help you much.

Not really. That ruins the scaling, and can be outclasses by any maxed out weapon.

The funny part is that Smouldering Lake is totally optional IIRC.

Point is moot, because early game has no worthwhile scaling.

It does. Even 40 extra damage from scaling will save yo butt alot of times.

Erm, you can always take Raw off, but early on? It is one of your best allies. On Astoras? It is downright insane. +3 Astoras hits for 160+ with buffs? It hits for 200-230+ it's kinda silly. Default stamina on deprived is 5 strikes and it is fast.

Early game raw astora (considering how early you take it) beats every weapon for a long time, then you can go dark sword/long sword and enchant them if you have the mats. Straight swords overall are pretty much better than any other weapon for PVE,its no wonder why speed runers use them.

NOTE:im not saying other weapons arent strong, all of them work, but claymore is nowhere near OP.

It kinda is OP soulswise. Neither in DS1 or DS2 could you get a 230-250 damage weapon within an hour. Excluding the blue halberd and drake sword.

I probably died once in the undead village, it's pretty easy already.

Dragon King Greataxe. You could get this pre-Blighttown if you chopped Gaping Dragon's tail off. 380 base AR with no upgrades. Absolute beast of a weapon if you had the stats for it, or even if you simply two-handed it.
