Any way to cap fps at 30?
I can run this game at 60 in most areas but it fluctuates around 40-50 in some areas to the point it effects my dodging. I would rather play the game at a perfect 30 then a sloppy 40-60. Any way to do this? ini files? Mods?

if you have a nvidia gpu u can cap the fps with nvidia inspector tool.

It won't run any better by capping it at 30 FPS. You won't get a smooth experience by doing this.

If you get 60 in most areas then take that instead of 30 in every area.

But if you truly won't to make the experience worse, check your graphics control panel. Should be some features for that there.

Buy a console, magically all your games will be capped at 24-30 fps XD

Amazingly the difference between the Low and Max s ettings is about 5FPS at best. There's hardly any change, only shadows seem to make a real difference. Even the AntiAliasing doesn't make an impact that's noticible.

I'd also like to lock ti to 30, the console versions are at 30 and having a consistent experience would be nice. For now, I just play at 720p; consistently 60FPS everywhere. You may want to try doing that OP if your screen scales nicely.

I've got an AMD, and I've tried setting the FPS in the Radeon control panel to 30, but it doesn't seem to matter. Then I tried Radeon Pro w/ no lcuk :(. I wish it would honor the Radeon settings, it's great when it works right.

No, it will not. The game wasn't meant to run at 30 FPS on PC and a monitor will show this far more clearly. But as I said check the Graphics control panel on your PC.

diable steam overlay, remove overlayrenderer.dll and overrendererx64.dll from steam folder and set overlayrender.txt to reed only

You can cap framerate with Rivatuner Statistics Server. If you have an NVIDIA card, you can also go into the control panel and set the vsync option for Dark Souls 3 to adaptive (half refresh rate).

Rivatuner Statistics Server is usually the way to go so I'd just google that. Setting it up is fairly straightforward.

This is the way to go. Your post, OP, made me think about this seriously again. So I tried something I downloaded but didn't run previously (because Radeon Pro failed and took the wind out of my sails). MSI Afterburner. It also installs Rivatuner Statistc Server, and this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CvoHXzaHKY will show you the steps necessary.

MSI Afterburner https://gaming.msi.com/features/afterburner

As Aytum has mentioned, I don't know if the MSI part is mandatory. May just be that. But give both a shot. Im playing right now at 1080p w/ 30FPS. Never thought I'd be so happy to see that. If you have nVidia, go with just the tuner software.

I added Dark Souls 3 executable as a profile so it would only apply to this game.

I'd say don't even download MSI Afterburner if you don't want to use it's other functions. Just get RTSS itself, it's very simple to use and gives most stable frame times compared to other limiters (including nvidia inspector).

I get the same fps at 1080p that I get at 800x600,

This game is HORRENDOUSLY coded cpu-wise and gpu isn't much better.

Fromsoft will NEVER fix it. All we can do is use workarounds such as a lower fps cap like the OP wants.

No rig in existence gets a locked 60 in this game. Not even the high-end 6th gen i7s can pull that off. Thats how bad this game is...

This is untrue. Frampacing matters. Using RivaTunerSS will give you a smooth 30 frames per second if you lock it. Stuttering is another issue, and if it happens, it won't appear any smoother. But a stable 30 is better than 60 with heavy drops for some people.

The Engine, not the Game. It uses PhyreEngine 3.5, which is bloated and CPU bound because they can't optimise their crap.

I thought capping at 30 would help too, but it's horrid lol. You'll go back to the 40 to 50 :)
