Burning Undead Bone Shards

Do they have any downsides? I know that upon burning them, you get "+1 flask" (it heals more iirc) but that just seems too good to be true. Apparently, in DS2 they increased the game difficulty but I was not able to find out whether this also applies to DS3.

No negatives as far as I know.

Pretty sure they didn't increase difficulty on DS2 either, that was bonfire acsetics.

They never increased difficulty in DS2, you may be confused with Ascetics.

Using bone shards in DS3 is only beneficial. Aside from the smell.

In DS2 what you burned to increase the Difficulty was an Bonfire Ascetic. Not a Boneshard.

And for DS3 there are no Downsides to Burning them at the Bonfire, you get more estus with each use for both of your flasks.
