GreatSwords any good?
I've been trying Wolf Knight Greatsword lately (40/40) and it seems to be quite hard to play. I mean, I can hardly make any pressure with the running attacks, cause they're bad as hell from my experience... Any tips for greatswords in general? or for the Artorias 1?

Thats not really good GS,Try Hollowslayer greatsword, that thing is my favorite and there are basically no downsides, exelent move set, exelent weapon arts, good poke, very good damage (40/40),and VERY light allowing you to wear whatever you like. Did i mentioned that it does bonus damage to holows ? which is pretty much 60% of the game and even some bosses...

In PvP there will always be weapons that won't do.
In PvE you can wield whatever you want.

I thought it was a DEX weapon cause of the scaling (D/C) so went with the WKGS. Is the moveset so special? I mean, I've seen that Drakeblood's one has the same 2h R1, and can probably get more dmg with it thanks to the scaling ... or maybe even a Refined Claymore. No idea, what's the dmg with that weapon at 40/40 and +5? I'm just using em at pvp btw

They are not good. Even a reaper is better than GS in this game.

I've got a preference for the few Greatswords with the Stance art. Normal Greatswords in general are just not quite large enough to make good use ot the stomp arts, sometimes it's downright sad.

For example, the Zweihander has it okay because it's long enough for it's big vertical art to reach stuff.

The Exectioner's Greatsword meanwhile, does one of the 360 spin it across your back Stomp arts... But it can barely hit even PvE enemies without being interrupted or outright missing due to it's length.

I'm not exactly "Great" at PvP, but the Stance Arts on my Flamberge (I'm not running a bleed build, and even if I was the flamberge is still swinging at greatsword speeds) are often enough to turn things around.

Hell, it's not a greatsword, but I've used the Stance Art to guard break players using the BROKEN SWORD, because the broken sword still has a stance art.

They do suffer in the "Min maxed efficiency" front in PvP, to be fair. Because they aren't fast enough to sneak multiple hits in, and aren't huge enough to get hyper frames/make kamikaze trade hit exchanges appealing.

But because of that, it seems there are a lot of people who by all rights should have killed me, that I still managed to beat at the last second, just because of that lack of familiarity/assumption Normal Greatswords "Are bad meta"

Biggest problem with GS is their lack of Huper armor with their slower than average attacks. You can still use them, and wolf knight is a good GS once you figure it out, but unless poise returns I don't think they'll be that useful. Ultra weapons will just trade with you, and faster weapons will stun lock you into oblivion, same with longer reaching weapons.

Use THE Greatsword.

I like the Wolf Knight Greatsword I've been using it since Yorhm, then went the Pontiff to Aldritch path. I'm now at Soul of Cinders and don't feel the weapon is holding me back. That being said I've always had a soft spot for them and really enjoyed using them in the previous games.

516 i believe at 40/40,as for the guy asking for player damage, well 400+500+ however as i said it has a poke thurst attack, put on leo ring and you will do things even parry cant.

It is light,it is fast,it doesn't consume stamina,it has the WA of a long sword,it has thurst poke... there are no downsides on this weapon, none.

Wolf Knight Greatsword is amazing for PvP, wachutalkinbout willis

I like using farron's and artoria's greatswords, sure they aren't that powerful but the farron is pretty good when a good player uses it. And with the artorias greatsword you can punish the nameless king's spear or any kind of halberd spammer, also its arts deal a pretty decent amount of damage if you know when to use them.

Hm, well, I never thought that stance could be useful. It looks like the range is pretty bad, and if I'm fighting a Shield user I'll just switch to smthing else. I feel like all I can do with this is wait for the enemy to come close and start R1R1 with 2h. Or deadangle R1R1 with 1h. Gets boring. The R2 is hard to hit with and the Weapon Arts of this weapon are fancy but quite useless imo.

I rly want to use them, but in the end I just switch to Red Hilted Halberd and L2 R1R1 through everything. I've seen Black Knight's Sword has perseverance as weapon art 2, does anyone know if that weapon is good (in terms of dmg for a quality)?

problem is great swords are in a really bad position in general.

at 40/40 most people reach about 500ish ar with a GS , where as a ultra sword or bkga will be 750+

but straight swords such as dark sword or anri sword have been hitting 450+ AR

so basically with a greatsword, you get the slow attacks of a larger weapon, but you don't get hyper armor, you also get the increased stam cost, but barely do anymore damage than a regular sword.
