Greirat quest bug?

So I'm very certain this quest is bugged for me.
I've sent Greirat out on the first pillage to the undead settlement and he hasn't returned for quite some time.
Yes I have waited for some time (1-4 hrs).
Yes I have quit to the main menu and startup my save file.

I've heard that he should return when you fight a boss.... well I beat all the bosses in the game, so I tried helping other folks online and still nothing.

Is there really no hope for his return, or at least a way to get his ashes?
Do I need to startup new game plus?

geirat can only return once you killed a boss in your world anywhere. so if you keeped him at firelink the entire game, gj you, n have fun doing it again newgame(+)

also there are some additional conditions to make geirat survive his raid.

I just want to experiment with the target shield.
I hope Fromsoft can at least make an update where you can get his ashes rather than just leaving him completely gone from the game.

No, I just killed Lothric and he hasn't returned. I can confirm that this won't work.

1st of all why the ♥♥♥♥ did you necro a 14 months old thread.

2nd we were talking about Greirat's first pillage in the Undead Settlement and not his 3rd pillage in Lothric Castle which always kills him.

1# I am a rebel and just looking some advice. Also if someone (like me) in the future is coming to look a same question asked, there will be answers.

2# This is exactly what I am after. And he yet hasn't returned. He has completely disappeared and I only took this note that killing a boss doesn't trigger apperantly his return.
