It's the same as the Morion Blade from demon's souls. Aka, when you're at low hp you get a red tearstone affect that boosts your AR.
And personally OP, I would only ever use the morion blade as a utility weapon. (Keep it on your offhand once you get low hp to get the red tearstone affect)
Danksword outclasses it in everyway. Frankly, I personally stay away from that entire weapon class because of the stigma of people mashing r1 like champions. (For the record I usually r1, r2, or r1, r1, kick with straight swords.)
Disappoints me because If not for that I could remake my quality build from dark souls 1 which was just full chainmail(lacking the helmet) heater shield, fire pine resin and a longsword. I'll still probably make that build at somepoint regardless.
You know what, let me stop rambling.
Yes it does, actually. If you're good at last minute parries, don't even bother with hornet, they're already dead.
Why am I giving you advice npc slayer
While this may be a bit of a spoiler you can actually get the blade without killing Orbeck, and I don't mean with a glitch or something. Basically if you buy every spell from every scroll that you gave Orbeck as well as the ones he starts with he will leave the shrine and you can summon him to help you with the twin princes. Once you defeat the princes (not sure you are required to summon Orbeck or not) you can find Orbeck's corpse sitting in the Grand Archives at the table near all the shortcuts on the balcony and you can acquire his ashes there. Once you collect them you can then turn them in to Yuria to get the weapon without ever laying a finger on Orbeck while he was alive.
Weapon variety in ds3? What sick joke is that?
