I imagine so since it isn't a key item (you'd lose things like the small doll and the banner to get to the Undead Settlement), but someone who's gone on to NG+ can correct me if I'm wrong

trade the extra for slabs

you can trade the fragment for a tatinite slab with the crow. So knowing when you get that second fragment you can just trade it.

I would highly suggest you to trade it with Crow for a Titanite slab though.
