This is untrue for my faith build. I play more on the aggresive side. I go point blank with my talisman and I'll hit most people for well over 600 and sometimes the mid 700's with just greater lightning spear. Oh and since I'm also luck I hit you with my hollow/lightning or dark buffed Barbed sword. Also have claws too for extra annoying stun-lock, but I don't use them often. If I can hit you 4-5 times you're bleeding bad. I can't wait to see sunlight spear in action..getting it soon.
