Can Abysswatchers be parried?
The boss I mean. I've been trying, just because I want to see if you can cheese him.

IF a parry is possible, its difficult to set up (beyond the timing) because trying to parry daggers of any sort is nigh impossible unless you know exactly when the attack is coming. The dagger-sword combo makes parrying not so easy, but whatever, just get it on the greatsword strikes.

But anyway, I think I actually did manage to time a parry correctly, but it just halved the damage instead of giving me a riposite condition. I know that happens on improper timing, but it might just be proof enough that he can't be parried.

Anyone else know anything?

What boss

Yes, at least Phase 1. I assume phase 2 as well, but it's safer just stunlock it and R1.

If you took half damage on a parry with no Riposet, you were too early.

The abysswatchers can be parried in both phases, second can be tricky with those giant fire swirl attacks.
So apparently some of the attacks cannot be parried; I got the "riposite" sound on a stike but the boss just continued the combo. I wish there was a guide showing which of the attacks COULD be parried.

The specific strike was a lunging piercing attack with the sword; not a charge, just a lunge, that opened up into a combo.

Yeah there isn't any guide as far as I'm aware. You will have do judge it and make a sensible choice on what can be parried and what not. :s
From what I understand, any attacks that do not put an Abyss Watcher in the air is parriable.

The most easily parryable strike I've found is his "downward strike" he performs after rolling towards you

Parrying on second phase appears not to be worth it, as the boss seems to "stop short" of parry range with most of his attacks

Besides looking flashy, is there really any reason to try parrying this boss? You can easily hit him 3-4 times with an R1 combo to force him to roll away, and unless you're twinking with the hornet ring, 4 R1 hits are going to do more damage than a riposte.
Not really, I'm not looking for efficieny anyway. This is just research.

I'm using a rapier to parry, and I don't know any data on parry windows yet, but after multiple tries the only strike I managed to parry on either phase was the "downward strike" after he rolls towards you.

There's a magical thing called a title....

If you can backstab them, you can parry them. The rule of thumb is if it's double your size, it's unparriable. Also, no jumping attacks.

Just Backstab, it's easy to dodge behind him. Them...him...Thim...whatever...

I love people who don't read thread, whatever, unsubbed

people should feel free to supplement this with their own research
