until you get to the point where enemies have infinite poise
( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º)
Never saw a straight sword reap 700 dmg in one hit from enemy while sending him flying.
I win with it a lot. About 8 out of 10.
The reasons they're weak compared to r1 spam weapons are:
-They consume 2-3 times as much stamina per swing
-Don't take out much more stamina when people block with shields than spam weapons
-They are ridiculously heavy and vit gives no curved equip load benefits
Their benefits:
-They look cool af
-If you land a hit, you get a free second hit, you take out ~2/3 their health
-More diverse movesets
-Huge bursts with some weapon arts
-Unparryable attacks
-Hyperarmour
-No optimal hitboxes
So, really, if you know how to take advantage of the mechanics involved with big weapons, the damages aren't nearly as important. They just require more skill and tact to reap the benefits than Straight swords, thrusting weapons, and katanas.
Edit: Added the hitboxes as a perk, since in DS2 you had to hit enemies with certain points on the weapon to do full damage. However, after using halberds and great axes, I haven't seen any differences in damage.
BKG +4, charged R2 deals 690dmg. Sweet and lovely.
My darksword does 511 on r1 spam.....2h r2 deals 790ish
Edit: 45/45 str dex refined B/B scaling
