Seigward's quest

I have just started my journey 2 and decided i would focus on side quests as much as I could. I have just forgiven Patches in an effort to advance Seigward's quest, however Patches was not selling the Catarina armour after i forgave him. No where I looked said anything about any requirements other than to simple forgive him. Am I missing something?

Is Seigward trapped in the well yet? you can only buy the armour once he's in the well

No, actually he's not. I have already fought the demon with him though, is there something else too?

Talk to him exhaustively... like, literally until he falls asleep each time.

Either way, Siegward will join you as an ally in battle if you descend from his balcony and go toward the town that’s close by. There is a powerful Demon there that can (and should) be killed. Help Siegward in that fight and then talk with him a few times afterward. You get his Siegbrau as a reward, and he’ll teach you Toast and Sleep gestures too.

Siegward is next found in a bind in the Cathedral of the Deep. Trapped down a well just outside the Cleansing Shrine bonfire chapel, you need to recover his full Catarina armor from Patches and give it to him there. Do so and he’ll teach you the Rejoice gesture and venture on to Irithyll Valley.

I didn't find him in the well until after I cleared the Deacons. I'm not sure what the exact trigger is.

Definitely something missing there, as I checked a guide after seeing a message by the well talking about an ally but not seeing anybody in there and he was definitely not in there right away for me. I came back later and he was there, I'm just not sure exactly what triggered the change.

If patches doesn't have the armor for sale you won't get it by killing him.

it'll show up. even if he doesnt drop it, once you trigger siegward to be in the well the armor wil spawn where patches would be as a vendor

Order of things on how I did it:

- Kill the fire demon with him, exhaust dialogue
- Talk to him in the well at Cathedral of the Deep
- Go up the tower in Firelink Shrine, go up the lift and back down. Exhaust dialogue with Patches
- Travel out and back to Firelink shrine, find Patches on the top floor
- Don't forgive him to get a gesture
- Buy Siegward armor set and go throw it in the well
- Send Greirat to Irithyll and go through the spider cave to the kitchen (from Distant Manor)
- Drink estus soup and exhaust dialogue with Siegward
- Go to Irithyll Dungeon and free Siegward from his cell
- Go to the Yhorm boss fight, Siegward will automatically appear in there with you
- Exhaust dialogue after boss fight.

It sounds like you need to go a bit further in the story until you can find him in the well. I don't exactly remember what you need to do, try opening the shortcuts and go see again.

It took him forever to appear in the well for me, I'm not entirely sure what even triggered it honestly. I have a feeling that tomorrows patch may alter this part of the quest to make it easier to get him into the well.

Last I checked the Wiki, Patches won't sell the armor if you already have it in your inventory. So if you kept the armor from NG to NG+, Patches won't sell you an extra set.

I never had the abillity to buy it from him in NG anyway so thats not a problem.

Do you think it was imperative that I went to the tower and got patches before Siegward was in the well?

I don't think so, I'm fairly certain in my case I got locked in the tower by Patches after finding onion-man in the well.
